Same old ****...

You go away from the forum for a year or two and come back, still the same old **** - Floyd and Pacquaio being discussed as if the fight would have been close when it should have happened.

Now? It's not even worth mentioning, why so many people invest energy in these two is beyond me when you have young exciting talent like Saul Alvarez, Andre Ward, Victor Ortiz, Amir Khan and a fair few others proving themselves in their divisions.

Mayweather and Pacquaio only fight "legend" fights now-a-days, their days of working up the ranks and beating people who were still live are well gone, as noticed by the selection of fighters.

The last live opponent Pacquaio faced who hadn't been beaten in the immediate past by someone else was David Diaz. Every other fighter had recent losses and with the exception of JMM and Cotto - went on to lose to inferior fighters in the next few bouts or retired into the wilderness.

Mayweather isn't even an active fighter anymore, while I like his resume more in the last 4 years than I like Pacquaios, he's inactive and he's no longer going to take on the guys that prove if you're in your element or not, they're just not worth even considering.

Get over those inactive, partially retired fighters and get behind the new blood, you'll appreciate boxing more.

 

Four years may or may not be the correct time frame, I'm meaning four years in a usual fighters career, I should have said the last 8 fights.

And what I mean by that is the last 8 fights for Floyd and Pacquaio are much the same in terms of quality, in terms of where their opponents were at and in terms of how much the fight meant.

Floyd has wins over ODLH, Mosley, JMM, Hatton and Baldomir.
Pacquaio has wins over ODLH, Hatton, Margarito and Cotto.

On the face of that, you'd assume Pacquaio wins out easily in terms of their last few fights....

Pacquaio shouldn't have got the W against JMM, we all know that, but lets put that aside.

ODLH, coming off the back of being beaten in a closer than expected fight against Floyd at 154 - being asked to bubble down at his age to 147 where he hadn't been in 8 years.

Clottey, coming off the back of being beat by Cotto.

Hatton - coming off the back of being knocked out against Floyd Mayweather Jr

Cotto - coming off the back of being knocked out by Margarito (brutal fight)

Margarito - coming off the back of being knocked out by Mosley (brutal fight)

And in his next fight.....

Mosley - coming off the back of being decisively beaten and almost humiliated against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Neither of them have a great past five to eight fights if you're asking me, Pacquaio faced easily the most legitimate threat in JMM at the weight they were at but he didn't win and continues to run from a rematch.

I guess at a push you could call their last 5-8 fights even, but the fact that Floyd got there first and won makes it harder to do so.

 

The one thing that also makes my viewpoint different is that I never viewed Pacquaio as being the "small man" that everyone else did in relation to fighting at 140 and 147. I had him winning against every fighter (my history will show that) he fought well before they fought, the only one I was indifferent on was Margarito because I still feel had the Margarito that came out against Cotto been there for Pacquaio, different story.

Pacquaio has very similar proportions in bone thickness as Floyd Mayweather, he's never looked top heavy unlike Floyd Mayweather at the 147 weight either. He wears the weight well and if anything, I feel it's strengthened him.

That being said, why hasn't he fought the guys that haven't been thoroughly outclassed in their very recent history? Where are the return fights against JMM?

The Pacquaio that fought MAB, JMM, Morales, etc - that Pacquaio has died the same death as the Mayweather that fought the Castillos (avenging the close decision unlike Pacquaio/JMM), the Corales and the Hernandez.

They both got too big for the sport and stopped facing up and comers, it's like I said, I respect the guys like Hopkins, Calzaghe and co because they beat more than just their own generation.
