Cotto's punching power nowadays.

It's either missing or Mayorga has a titanium chin. The punch with which Cotto hit Mayorga in the 12th looked like it could chop down trees. Obviously Mayorga was stunned, but he wasn't as stunned as he should have been. What happened there?

Cotto has never had concussive one shot power he's a grind them down and beat them so badly that they wish you had KO'd them with 1 shot type of guy, and now he is at a higher weight with bigger guys and yes mayorga has always had a very solid chin

His power has not carried well. Mayorga USED to have a good chin. I expected Cotto to KO Mayorga ala DLH and Mosley

Miguel doesn't hit as hard as people thinks he does. We all found this out in the manny fight.

He still has power but Emannual Steward is trying to turn Cotto into a non aggressive boxer rather than a boxer/puncher like Cotto normally is.

combination of factors, Mayorga has a good chin, Cotto not a 1 punch KO artist and especilly not at 154. He does hit hard as Mayorga alluded to in the post fight interview.

Had he set down on his punches and delivered them with Malice vs Margarito in their 1st encounter Cotto probably wouldnt have been walked down.

Cotto's left hand is a cannon, Pays being a natural southpaw.
As a WW/ Jr. Middleweight his right hand did not transfer over well.
(Therefore his combo punching has suffered a bit)

That said a well placed hook to the body/head against anyone in his division would hurt them.
(Didn't say stop them... but defo make them respect him)

He has OK power. Judging by his frame though, you would expect more. He did have KO power at 140.

I don't think this is the case.

I just think that people have been overrating his power. He's a good puncher, but he's not a devestating puncher.

Look at the difference between Mosley's punchers against Margarito and Cotto's punches.

In some fights Mosley looks like a devastating puncher and in others just a good(but not spectacular puncher).. He was hitting hard against Margo,ODLH II,Mayorga.. But in his fight with Cotto it looked like Miguel was landing throwing the harder shots... I was suprised that Mosley never really hurt Cotto.. Where as i think Cotto was definitely getting Shanes respect.... But i do think Mosley is hitting harder later in his career than when he was in his prime.

by that logic Cotto has a great chin because Mosley couldn't even bring Cotto to a knee, much less drop him.

...who had more power didn't mean much in there respective fights with Marg since they fought two completely different fights. one guy fought off the back foot, the other tried to walk him down. one guy wanted to put on a clinic the other guy wanted a KO.

but anways, Cotto has good power, i'd say an 8/10. as was stated his left hook to the body is a bomb. one of, if not the best of his era. i'd also say he has one of the stronger jabs in boxing.

but at the end of the day, Cotto is combination/boxer puncher he's not a slugger, nor has he ever been. and he never had 1 punch KO power, very few elite fighters do these days. so i'd say his power has transfered well.
