I'm going with Ortiz. Khan stayed in his weightclass and did take on a power puncher and survived a scary round, I still gotta go with Ortiz. Ortiz went up to the next weight and took on the young, strong, fast and unbeaten Champ, that was being avoided by the likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather.
this...^ and imo Ortiz had more to prove. Khan simply got caught, it happens, i've forgiven him for it, but others seem to not be able to get past it...
Ortiz of course. He really proved himself that night. Maidana is the most overated boxer I've seen in years. Like Erik said, he's not as powerful as people think and his skills are mediocre at best. So, Khan is obviously vastly overated in turn. Beat a way, way past it Barrera, feather-fisted Malinaggi, barely got through that Maidana fight and looked like **** against McCloskey, yet he considers himself to be one of the top draws in Boxing. Funny how this game works. Next time he faces a young, skilled boxer with decent power, he's looking at loss #2. :deal
Ortiz by a country mile.....They both redeemed themselves but the redemption's that needed redeeming were completely different. Khans chin was questioned and ortiz heart was questioned and i think in the maidana fight and the berto fight they both redeemed themselves but if you are a fighter surely you its easier having your chin questioned than your heart.
good question. I think our short term memory forgets about Khan's situation too much, but I go with Ortiz
Ortiz vs. Berto He beat a higher ranked fighter than Maidana was and was the underdog, whereas Khan the favorite. Plus he won more convincingly (My cards: Ortiz 115-110, Khan 113-112).
Ortiz showed heart and mental toughness - something many didn't think he had much of. Khan showed his may not be pure china like it used to be at 135, but he showed that his chin is still very shaky. Not that he didn't show heart in the process though.
Ortiz all day imo. Going UP in weight against a dangerous, undefeated puncher, and eating his best shots, and coming back with your own every time, without ever truely going into survival mode is just damn impressive. Props to Khan staying on his feet, and toughing out a win, but it wasn't like what Ortiz did.
That was the point I was going to bring up. They both proved alot of doubters wrong, but Ortiz really turned the cynics into fans.
Ortiz. Having your heart questioned is about the worst thing that can happen to a boxer. To get up off the deck and win a war, he really fought with a ton of heart and won back boxing fans. Plus, I think more fans genuinely see Ortiz as a nice guy we would like to see succeed. Khan hasn't exactly won over the hearts of the general public.
