De la Hoya by a looks easier than done performance. Oscar must keep his awareness of Arguello's power. Arguello has the kind of power that, if he catches you and makes you stand still, will make you pay if you forget it.

Oscar is bigger, and has the legs to win this match. His jab and movement would be a nightmare for the slower footed Arguello.

De la Hoya by 10th round TKO. Arguello would press harder the more he fell behind, falling into more and more punishment.

 

DLH never beat anyone near the level of Alexis Arguello.......

.....it does'nt matter whether it was 12 or 15......barring DLH does'nt run to survive for the last several rounds, Arguello lays out DLH late in an emphatic KO!

Arguello was trailing on points when he suddenly ko'd Olivares in 13 in 1974. Alexis Arguello was dangerous 'till the end, and would have eventually caught Oscar with a shot unlike anything he has ever taken before. Hell, if Fekix Trinidad could hang in there with Oscar, Arguello would have as well, and Alexis was, in my opinion, far more lethal with explosive single punches than Felix. Arguello would have ko'd Oscar.

Oscar was, and still is, a very good fighter. Alexis was a great fighter. The difference between very good and great is what we're looking at here. Oscar could be hit, and Arguello, even though his hand speed was nothing phenomonal, had an uncanny ability to time his opponents. Alexis also had the ability to change the course of a fight with a single punch from either hand, and outstanding finishing skills. Alexis was a 15 round fighter, but the 12 round fight would just mean he would step on the gas a bit sooner. Oscar goes down and stays there in 10 or 11 rounds.

Why is alexis being considera a class above. He never beat a great fighter in his prime either, the fact that de la hoya has the better chin and hes the naturally larger man, should give him the tko win.

 

I think Oscar was a bit green at 135. He was probably best at his 140 and though Arguello wasn't at his best at 135, I think he was closer to his best than DLH was to his, especially if you consider ring experience.

If this is set for 15, give me Arguello on a close points win or a late stoppage. Over 12, Oscar might hold Alexis off for a close points win.

 

Arguellos best weight was SFW (Very good at FW & LW). De La Hoya was probably at his best at this weight imo...Both very good boxers...my heart would cheer for Arguello, but my head believes that Oscar wins this in an exciting 12 rd decision...I would find it closer and maybe even lean towards Arguello in 15 rds...But then again I don't think stamina was a problem for DLH at this age/weight...so it may not make much difference either way?
