OK, I know the hype behind this kid. But I was looking very carefully at his record and it doesn't impress me at all. First, he lost by Unanimous decision against a 2-1 fighter! Then, he is only 26-1 and his biggest wins are against Montiel and Darchiyan! Donaire is not undefeated and his first 15 or so fights were against complete tomato cans... :tired

So, why is Donaire ranked so high in the P4P rankings? I think Gamboa has fought better opposition, is undefeated in his career plus he was a monster amateur compared with Donaire. I think Donaire is getting too much praise and hype for just beating Montiel. Yuriorkis Gamboa is definitely better P4P.

It makes no sense ... :huh

Donaire deserves his spot. Montiel and Darchiyan were p4p ranked fighters and he dispatched them very decisively. Gamboa still has some more work to do, but I think Gamboa can reach the top 5 p4p status in a year or 2

I think Donaire should be higher than SMM.

Because he is from the bay, might be the first time the bay area has had a pnd for pnd boxer in a long time.

Undefeated doesn't matter. He lost like 10 years ago. Doesn't mean a damn thing.

Donaire has fought better opposition and looked more impressive in doing so. Darchinyan and Montiel are better than anybody on Gamboa's resume....and somebody like Sidorenko is better than Solis or Mtagwa.

Gamboa's talented, sure...but Donaire's shown amazing talent as well, and has a better boxing brain imo.

no. I rate P Dub higher than Montiel and they both got finished in the same fashion. Also becoming the undisputed middleweight champ don't hurt

Amateurs dont mean **** when it comes to P4P PRO rankings and the "0" at the end of your record dont mean the world. He lost in his second pro fight for christ sakes in a 5 round fight.

And you really wanna talk about Gamboa's resume? Who has he beaten? Salido? Solis?? ahahahahahaha

Gamboa has never fought anyone close to Darchinyan or Montiel's level and even the shitty names on Donaire's resume are mostly better then some of the best wins on Gamboa's.

Oh yes, undefeated does matter! And losing to a 2-1 fighter is plain horrible, you will never ever see Gamboa losing to a 2-1 fighter starting his career!

Don-aire may have beaten Montiel and Darchiyan but that doesn't merit his #3 status, top 10 yes but not top three.

I am not saying that Gamboa should be top 3 now but neither Don-aire! :verysad

I guess Gamboa rates higher than Henry Armstrong and Bernard Hopkins in an all-time sense right? Since they lost early fights...and because...well, because......oh yeah!!! Because Gamboa was a better amateur. C'mon man, see how flawed your logic is?

Who ranked him to be No. 3 P4P? Which list? Can that list be relied on? You should ask yourself these questions first.

Actually, it's the first time the Bay has TWO pound-for-pound boxers.

    Scroll to the middle:

With WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire of San Leandro currently occupying the fourth spot, Ward’s entrance marked the first time in history that two Bay Area pugilists have graced the rankings simultaneously.
