    I don't have great news. Apparently a fight between Bute and William Joppy is close to being made. It's almost signed.

    Not exactly the greatest fight in the world. But I guess Joppy still has some kind of a name in the USA. Could help sell a fight with Andrade next summer if Bute-Joppy is on US tv.

    IBF Ratings:
    1- Not Rated: To be determined by the winner of Tsypko-Stieglitz.
    2- Vitali Tsypko: Fighting Stieglitz in an IBF Title Eliminator.
    3- Carl Froch: Fighting Inkin in a WBC Title Eliminator.
    4- Denis Inkin: Fighting Froch in a WBC Title Eliminator.
    5- Jurgen Braehmer: In line for a WBO Title Eliminator. Possibly against Kessler.
    6- Robert Stieglitz: Fighting Tsypko in an IBF Title Eliminator.
    7- Alejandro Berrio: Just lost his title to Bute by brutal Knock Out!
    8- Librado Andrade: In line for a shot at Bute in May.
    9- Sakio Bika: Bute beat him to get his shot at the IBF title.
    10- Edison Miranda: Fighting Banks in January and then Pascal in June.
    11- Jean Pascal: Fighting Pittman in January and then Miranda in June.
    12- Jeff Lacy: Not ready for a title shot apparently.
    13- Cristian Sanavia: He was suppose to be the opponent but he drew against Haussler.

    I knew WJ was on the cards, but we all agreed he was the last person we wanted in there. My problem is this: how much of a challenge could Joppy realistically be expected to provide? Would Bute learn anything by fighting him? Sure, it might land him a fight against Andrade on US TV, but would it prepare him for that Andrade fight? This is a missed opportunity to improve whilst not taking a big risk - which gimmes are all about - Bute has 2008 to play with, learn and develop, and no one will be overly critical or expect the earth from him, but come 2009, ready or not, he will be expected to step up to the plate against anyone, including Kessler! Would the Joppy fight prepare him for that? And here's another thing: Bute has been taking harder and harder fights; he made 2 hard fights against Bika and Berrio, but now, he loses that momentum altogether by taking on an old, sub-par, quasi-retired opponent...after two big steps forward, he is taking an even bigger step back - I am also afraid it will not affect his morale and mentality in a positive way...

    As a fan of Bute who wants the best for him, I am disappointed...even Hanshaw would have been better - at least he wasn't finished.

    Granted...not much of a choice given those options...but did it HAVE to be someone ranked with the IBF? Is it in the rules that a voluntary has to be ranked in the top 15?

    forget US TV there not putting the money up and there is not any interest in Bute yet, inter box won't some of there hard earned they have put into this kid back and a give me type of fight first up fits the bill perfect, Joppy 2 times WBA champ at 160, fought Tito, hopkins, easy to sell to canada TV company and Public, You know most of them are no like you or me are not hardcore boxing fans and Know that old Joppy is finished at the top end of this game. JUst enjoy your boy fighting this type of fight and wait for the the big one in 2009 if he impresses.

    I agree but it could be good for Bute's state of mind to fight an opponent he is going to annihilate after two tough fights against Bika and Berrio. Plus is going to get good exposude on US tv against an opponent with a decent name.

    Yes, Bute has to defend his title against someone ranked in the top15 by the IBF. But it's very possible to get someone ranked for the only purpose of getting a title shot against the champion. That's what happened when Lucas fought Kessler. Lucas wasn't ranked by the WBA at the time. The fight was announced and then Lucas showed up in the WBA rankings the next month. Like Lucas, Joppy is a former champion and he is highly ranked by the WBC (7th).

    Well, usually governing bodies, especially the WBO, give their boys a leg-up when they fight voluntaries and even mandatories, by ranking someone weak at the last moment. But in this case, if they ranked a good fighter in their Top 15, they would be giving their rankings more credibility and would make the title more prestigious; not to mention that they would help Bute by giving him more of a challenge.

    You may be right that Bute needs a moral boost-up that an early rounds stoppage would give him, but I think it might actually be doing him more harm than good. He's taken his eye of the ball a bit in the euphoria of his Title win, with the public aclaim both in Montreal and Romania, and what he needs, in my opinion, is to be brought back to earth. Joppy won't do it. Of course, it might be argued that he is very vulnerable now, after the win, and an easy fight is what is needed, but an easy fight against an opponent that brings him down to earth more would have been preferable, I think...

    I'll guess we'll only know after the Andrade fight...

    According to this article, Interbox are considering 3 boxers at the moment. Christian Sanavia, Allan Green and the third one we don't know... Sanavia & Green talks are at an early stages but a fight against Green would be a great chance of exposure to the US public.

    I don't know who the third one is and I don't know why it's such a mystery.

    If it was Joppy. Why would they want to keep it a secret?

    As far as Andrade is concern. Like I said in the past. He is fighting on the undercard and getting a title shot in May.
