Can Manny Pacquiao become Fighter of the Year in 2011?

Manny Pacquiao dominated and defeated Shane Mosley this past weekend, but is that enough to get him into the running for 2011's "Fighter of the Year," an award he has earned three times before?

The year opened up with many impressive performances on HBO and Showtime with many upsets, knockouts and Fight of the Year candidates.

Pacquiao's performance against Mosley did not do enough to fulfill fans' expectations of their pound-for-pound king.

He may still have one fight left in 2011, and his choice of opponent will be crucial to him earning the distinction as FOTY for a fourth time.

nah, probabbly not. we all expected him to dominate Shane. he'd have to KO someone like Martinez in order for him to get FOTY imo.

but of course, it all depends on what the other elite fighters accomplish this year as well.

Well for me it's Donaire at the moment, followed by Ortiz and Rios.

He dominated a guy in a fight he's favored by an 8-1 margin.

Nobody expected Mosley to run around for 10 rounds and scared shitless of Pac's power, but we expected Pac to dominate Mosley.

Not a FotY candidate. If he fights Floyd and wins, probably.

I got Donaire as the lead for FotY, I hope he still gets a fight or two this year.

Hell no. Beating a old Mosley and a bloated Marquez don't cut it.

    We are only half way.

Bradley can have a shot if he faces Khan, Ortiz, Pac or other decent comps.

Donaire's destruction of Montiel is the early favorite.

Only way Pac gets it is with a win versus PBF or Martinez by end of year. Since those fights are unlikely to happen and beating Marquez or Ortiz is not good enough IMHO, Pac has little chance.

He can probably get KO of the year if he fights Marquez and makes sure he stays down

Mosley. fighting like that even with the blister. Second choice (real) is Martinez. That jab is just sickness.

LOL I forgot PAC lost every round to Mosley.

I think Donaire would easily run away with this but his tug of war with Arum & GBP will probably scupper this sadly.

I'd be inclined to make Bradley and Donaire the favorites at this point, but promoter troubles might prevent them from taking on another meaningful fight for the rest of the year. If they manage to fit in the final of the Super Six this year, the winner of the tournament will also have a good case. And whoever emerges out of Hopkins/Pascal/Dawsom/Diaconu will likely also be in the conversation.

Depends what the competition does, doesn't it? I could very well see the Super Six winner take it come the end of the year.

(*possibly..... but then again, probably not)

Although it was ugly, Alexander was still a top 5 guy in the division (top 3 on most lists) and I consider it one of the most significant victories of the year so far. A victory over Khan means he would have taken out the second and third-ranked fighters at 140 and unfied 3 of the 4 belts. Like I said though, it looks like he won't be able to maintain his momentum.

I'd say no way at this point. Not for that fight. Arce had the best performance on the card by far, that was a great fight. I'd have Arce in the running at the moment, as well as Donaire and Martinez and Ortiz, who will back it up with another great performance? Time will tell.
