Just wondering who would you guys like to see Kelly Fight next? Throw a Couple Names out there. 1. Pryor Jr. 2. Steglitz 3. Strum 4. Miranda 5. Paul Williams I dont want to see my Fighter get in there With a Kessler, Bute, Or Froch right away. at least get another fight under his belt against A good fighter who that will go at least 8-9 rds.
Pryor or Andrade, I know Andrade isn't on your list, but that's what I would pick, he's not ready for anything else yet. No reason to hurry him because I don't think he's washed up, he just has been in a tail spin for a couple years, he needs a couple tough warm ups, then he will be ready by early next year if he stays clean and on track in my opinion.
Andrade would make for a very good fight and Pavlik should be able to beat Andrade as well. Andrade would be a bit risky since he's a tough guy who's going to push Pavlik pretty hard but Andrade seems to be slipping and this would be a good time for Pavlik to go after him. Pavlik could play it a bit safer and take on someone like Don George, Marcus Johnson, or even an Edison Miranda rematch. Pavlik beats all those guys but they'd make for entertaining fights and Pavlik needs atleast one more fight before going after some of the top guys.
In my opinion most people currently under rate Alfonso Lopez. As of right now I've watched Pavlik/Lopez 4 times, and I believe CJ Ross had it right with his 99-91 score card. However, the fight was a lot more competitive than a score that wide makes it seem. Lopez put up a hell of a fight. The point of the above is that it would be hard for Kelly to "step up" from Lopez without fighting some one pretty near the top of the division. I would most certainly expect Lopez to beat guys like Vera, Pryor jr, Sierra, et. I think Pavlik should try to get a fight with Stieglitz. The WBO top 10 is a freaking joke at the moment, and they still have KP ranked at 160. I'm pretty sure that a little "political pressure" from The Bob Father could get Pavlik installed as the mandatory. He might as well get belted up while the Super Six finishes out.
Ok Boo, I understand your passion for Kelly, but what's best for him long term in the division? A quick step up, or getting his legs back under him and winning some new fans? He needs a guy in front of him right now that he can look like old Kelly against. A belt right this minute doesn't help the long term outlook in my opinion. He fights Andrade and wins big, then he is right back in the mix. And I feel Kelly does great against guys like this that will throw and not dance off. To me its just the fight he needs. Success breeds confidence, and we know Kelly can do some really good things when his is confident, he's not there yet. He's won just one fight after losing his titles, and battled alcohol and many other things as you know. I believe he needs that one fight right now where he can regain some form. I know Kelly loves to be hit and hit back, Andrade can supply him that and I think Kelly would knock him out and that would really boost his confidence again, at that point anything can happen for him.
I don't know if Pavlik necessarily has to step up he could even stay at the same level as Lopez just as long as he gets some more rounds in. Lopez isn't bad and gave Pavlik the kind of fight he needed. It would be a good fight but I'd take Pryor over Lopez but I think Lopez could beat guys like Vera and Sierra.
I think Pavlik would do a lot better against Froch than he did against Lopez...I think Pavlik shoud fight Froch next...he shouldn't be wasting his time with guys like Pryor...he's a former champion...he has nothing left to prove to anyone...it's like saying that JMM should have to prove himself at 140lbs before he gets to fight Pac...let him sink or swim...it's what we expect from our champions.
Andrade is coming off a loss, so I doubt it'll be him. Look for Kelly to be back in the ring in August against a top 20 to 15 opponent. Maybe Pryor Jr. or Manfredo.
As much as I want to See Pavlik Fight Froch, he needs another bout! Kelly Is about his Fans if you dont know, Die-hard Ones From Youngstown and surrounding Areas..
