Sebastian Zbik has defended his WBC Middlweight interim belt THREE times already! Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has defended his WBC Silver middleweight belt once. Both are a complete farce of a belt. They will meet to fight for the full WBC title soon, even that I think should belong to Martinez.
Nothing new though, is it? Martinez's promoter has said this week that if Chavez wins he is refusing to fight Martinez so we will then see Martinez fighting Marco Antonio Rubio for the belt.
Same old ****. Just need to vent every now and again. Such simple things killing the sport. 4 orgs isn't even the reason, that is easy to follow. There are loads of competitions in football, tennis etc and people follow them easily. Its the fact that within those orgs there is no clarity on who is the real champ, who is the number 1 contender, what is the Latino, Silver and interim belt etc All designed for the WBC to claim their criminal 3%.
Best thing would be to just ignore it. Won't happen of course though. Boxing is just stupid at the moment, the amount of people I know that either have a casual or no interest in boxing even they recognise that the world titles mean nothing and seemingly anyone can become a champion at the moment. Next week Nathan Cleverly could become a world champion at light heavyweight.. 4 hours after that Jean Pascal takes on Bernard Hopkins to see who's the world champion at light heavyweight. An hour before that, Chad Dawson fights Adrian Diaconu.. to see who's the light heavyweight world champion... confused?
Anyone who pays to see a "silver" or "interim" world title fight is a complete idiot. Or pays a sanctioning fee to hold one of these wastes of time.
It wont be long until a real contender knocks either out, but i cant see Martinez getting close to the winner. ( chavez most likely )
Yeah..... and really I can see why. Martinez was willing to fight him but would obviously have been doing it for next to nothing. Really Zbik is just part of the grand plan between the WBC and Chavez jr.... a plant if you like. When you think the best guy he's beaten is Spada, and Barker whipped the guy after a year off. Can't really box and can't really punch - HBO would have been creating a rod for themselves screening him vs Sergio in my opinion.
i get why HBO etc don't want that fight but Zbik won an eliminator. You guys are acting like Martinez has the wbc belt stolen from his hotel room or something. he was told when he beat pavlik that he would need to fight Zbik. he chose not to.
