Dan Rafael is saying that its a done deal and Williams will face Ishida on July 9 on HBO.

If this is the case then this is a weak main event and HBO should not be putting this on as a main event. Williams is entitled to an easier opponent and facing someone like Ishida is probably a smart move right now, but HBO should not be wasting its money on this fight. Unless it does a tripleheader that night and Williams is the first fight of the night HBO should have a higher standard than this.

I agree, but i'd wait to see what else they get on the card.

This is a very good fight for PDub at this point, but I agree it is not main event quality.

WOW this is a complete farce if true. HBO needs to seriously clean house if they are going to put this on. Especially since Williams is due a 7 figure payday for fighting Ishida? :rofl:patsch

Perfect comeback fight for Williams but you are right this shouldn't be a main event. A good undercard fight but def not main event worthy. Hopefully if it is a main event there is a good undercard.

HBO is going to have to have a damn strong undercard fight for this. Bet they go out and get some Golden Boy retread against a soft touch as the undercard fight.

Yeah, I'm hoping HBO goes with a strong undercard to make up for a weak main event. But, I suspect Williams will be making a big payday here which won't leave a lot of money to spend on a quality undercard. I could be wrong here and HBO puts a good card around this but I'm skeptical.

PWill needs to rebuild his confidence and improve his technique. This is a good fight for him. At this point he needs 1-2 fights to prove he is worthy to fight for a belt and headline again.

I'm just glad Williams' team has finally decided on their opponent. I can't recall how many fighters they rejected to get to this point. Wolak, Dzinziruk, etc.

It's funny how one goes from being the most avoided fighter to avoid anybody with a pulse (although, Ishida could give him a tough fight).

While I don't have a problem with Williams fighting a soft touch or two it does not deserve to be a main event on an HBO card and decisions like this are why Showtime has really made ground on HBO lately. This is a complete disgrace.

I don't think this is a good fight, Paul still needs to change trainers as well, Peterson is not a good fit.

I haven't seen enough of him to be sure, but it seems Ishida could be getting SEVERELY over matched purely because he just happened to fight a guy with the worst punch resistance I've ever seen. Kirkland made him look like a destroyer because he crumbled everytime Ishida touched him.

I get that they're setting Williams up with a winnable come back fight, but this is not main event worthy.

I hope I am proved wrong though.
