You know, everyones going to say "errr, after Barrera". What they mean is "after De la Hoya, but I've read a lot of wikipedia and watched a lot of youtube since" Manny wasn't selling 300'000 ppvs at that time. Where were you all?
BLOW BY BLOW days. i already knew back then that he will be the next face of Phillpine boxing after he beat sasakul. but I never expected him to beat the likes of barrera, marquez, and morales though... let alone fight above 135 lbs.
I've been a fan of the Yankees since I've known what baseball is, yet people call me a bangwagon guy...you might be right about some people regarding Pac, though...but I can truly say he caught my attention when he KO'd Lucero, but I became a huge fan after Barrera I...
You're an idiot. He did those numbers with Marquez and Morales, which were both before DLH. It was after the DLH fight that he got MAINSTREAM success and appeal. He was big in the Philippines before and after the first Barrera fight. He was already a world champion at that point.
Check the Join Dates of most current posters. See many who were online in 2003? I started lurking in maybe mid-2005 and there were plenty of hardcore fans back then.
From the Sasakul fight I started following his career, although I wasn't really a fan, I just wanted to see how a pinoy fighter would fare on the world level, see if he could be as successful as the likes of Espinosa or Penalosa. Although I was also able to catch some fights on tv I became a fan after watching the Ledwaba fight, despite his bleached hair tips The only fight I didn't get to watch on TV after the Ledwaba fight(delayed telecast, not live though) was the Sanchez fight and that other Thai fighter he fought before 3k Battery.
you do know that in the Philippines, practically all of his fights since he was a teenager (the Blow-by-Blow show that others have mentioned here) have been shown on network (free) tv right? Sure it may be a delayed telecast, but those fights were shown on the same day. I've never bought PPV for his fights but I've watched almost all of his fights since the Ledwaba fight and you can be damn sure that any pinoy who gave a damn about boxing most likely watched a lot of his fights on tv. PPV numbers don't mean anything in the Philippines.
During his Blow by Blow days. I also loved watching the fights of his contemporaries Flash Murillo, Randy Mangubat and Juanito Rubillar.
co-sign to the one who said that this is a dumb analysis.... you are one mean hating machine..... co-sign to the one who said that this is dumb analysis
Barrera 1. We didn't get much international boxing coverage in the UK back then (from what I can remember)...but for some reason this bout was shown on the BBC. I had been following Barrera somewhat before that, I expected him to win comfortably...
