I think the Jones knockdown hurt him most imo. Cant say I know this for a fact but he did look hurt that time. If only we all had a chin that good.

this thread must have set a new record for the most dumb, ignorant, delusional, narrow minded americans ever in one single thread.

calzaghe would have lacyied jones at any point in his career. a shot calzaghe absoloutely toyed with jones in his own backyard. sure jones had lost to tarver and johnson but this was the 1st time that jones had ever had his head boxed off purely by the use of boxing skills as calzaghe obviously had no power with his brittle hands.

people need to get real about jones and realise why he could never live with prime calzaghe

1 - jones has a disgracefull glass jaw, one of the worst in the sport, calzaghe's chin is made of the finest iron

2 - jones couldn't adapt in the ring, everytime he faced trouble, he couldn't change his game plan and lost the fight. calzaghe was genius at adapting.

3 - great fighters show their true colours when faced with adversity. every time jones faced adversity he collapsed like a lawn chair. everytime calzaghe faced adversity, he stared defeat in the eye and came roaring back like a sabre tooth tiger.

4 - roy is a proven banned anabolic steroid taking drug creating disgrace. drug cheats make me want to vomit. calzaghe loves his coke but at least he's a clean fighter and non of his achievements will ever be questioned by taking PED's. remember a drug cheat very rarely cheats once, its much more likely that he is a multiple cheater. btw don't give me any of that bull**** about ripped fuel, that was just jones' bull**** story.

Headgiver... only Phailey and a few other UKUNTS care about your opinion. You're just a bored child with too much time who discovered boxing. hence the ONLY person you really post about being a dude who retired a couple years ago...

NOw, go ahead and make an emoticon filled reply...because those are REALLY REALLY GOOD!

No, I don't think the fight would go the distance.

Calzaghe was always open for a straight right hand, and you add Calzaghe's lack of head movement and poor defence to Jones's exceptional handspeed and one-punch power, and you have a certain TKO on your hands.

Two different levels of fighter here.

Jones went the distance with several fighters who were not close to Calzaghe in skills. Reluctant Roy didn't like to engage to protect that fragile Glass Jaw.

If BHops could last 12 and look decent/OK against prime Roy, the quicker Calz would too.

I think all Joe's own KDs were when he was past prime. So he had a good chin when prime. Probably better than Roy's.

My understanding is that earlier Joe was a KO artist and that's why he started breaking his hands. (Admittedly not against great opponents.)

Joe also was one of the smartest and most adaptable boxers.

Roy probably was quicker still than Joe was.

Prime vs Prime is a toss-up to me.

Who do you think would win though? :think

Jones knocked down/knocked out/TKO'ed every fighter except Jorge Castro, Bernard Hopkins, Lou Del Valle, Antonio Tarver, John Ruiz and David Telesco...that's pretty impressive Jones had very good power.

If Joe makes the distance, he definitely gets knocked down at least once throughout the bout.

Joe Calzaghe could easily hang with prime RJJ for 12 rounds - Calzaghe's fitness, stamina and workrate are severely underrated in this thread :patsch

Calzaghe was one of the most adaptable, determined and enduring fighters I've ever seen fight - sure he got KD'd a few times throughout his career but every time he got straight back up (his recuperative abilities were also underrated) and pushed the action, he never shied away from his opponent.

RJJ relied on athletic ability and reflexes to win his fights - as soon as they started to fade he started getting KO'd.

Calzaghe was just as gifted in the athleticism and reflex department as RJJ, so I think this fight comes down to who has the stronger will to win. As has already been said in this thread, as soon as the going got tough RJJ folded, whereas Calzaghe stepped up.

Personally I think Calzaghe had much greater mental strength and discipline than RJJ, and therefore he would win via UD.

A prime Calzaghe would give anyone throughout the history of the middleweight and supermiddleweight division a tough fight...just like Hagler and hopkins would give anyone in those two divisions tough fights prime for prime. Calzaghe deserves to be talked about in this context.

A prime Welsh Dragon puts Jones to sleep.

Joe was a devastating power puncher before his hands went.

If he really made of point of trying to do so,but i get the feeling JC might hang on ...Jones would score a couple knockdowns though. 116-110 decison.
