Why is it that JMM fighting at 142 wasn't the same fighter he was at 135?

Please. He looked like a guy who was outclassed. No matter his counter punching skill he is still a fighter who needs a brawl. Mayweather's style and speed never gave him that. He even said it after and has continued to say it.

Only time weight is an issue is when frames start entering the picture, i.e., Judah-Clottey or Cotto-Margarito. Pac/JMM is just a bad fight due to where their careers are.

He fought a bigger man with great skills, was ****ed on the scales too. You can't jump from 135 to to 147 fighting againsed a proper Welter and be expected to do too well.

JMM was sluggish at the higher weight and Floyd weighed in at no less than 156 in ring, probably more. There's a reason Floyd didn't make 144 lbs as he was contracted to make for that fight. And at one point in the fight, Marquez hit Floyd with a flush straight right hand, and Floyd's head barely twitched. Tells you all you need to know about Marquez's power as a Welterweight. It doesn't mean that Marquez isn't a great fighter, but everyone has a limit in terms of weight class. This will be displayed again when he faces Pacquiao.

Pac ain't no Welter though, he is the same guy Marquez fought two times, he just chooses to fight at a weight class where he has no need to cut weight. I think it's a sensible thing at his age, why bother fighting at lower weights when you are beating full blown Welters at your natural weight?

He has an advantage of strength at 135, not 142, Floyd is too good to give up an advantage too, he tried, got paid and said "hell with this" and went back to LW.

JMM looked bloated and soft in that fight, he probably woulda done better if he came in lighter.

However .. either way FMJ beats JMM at any weight class.

I agree on the first part, but try telling that second part to Shane Mosley. He did pretty well against Oscar. Duran didn't do so bad either. It's just that he was facing someone with superior skills.

It had something to do with Floyd not honoring the contracted weight.

Floyd can't have been over 155. Jmm was 148 right? It was more than the weight. I think he trained all wrong. Did he have a s+c coach? They tried tobeef him up and failed miserably. He should have stayed at his usual weight and entered the ring at 144 like he did in second fight with pac. Would have been better off imo

JMM tried adding muscles to add power which didnt work cause Floyd was just too big that night. JMM thought Floyd possibly came very near to 160. I dunno if i believe JMM though...

Because he was fighting a welterweight who normally weighs more than 155 at fight time.

There is a reason why he never jumped to 140 or 147. The fighters in those divisions can outweigh him by 10 plus pounds at fight time.
