As Early As Next Week :D

It appears the first major cross-promotional fight between the UFC and Strikeforce could be coming to a head within the next few days.

After beating Jake Shields at UFC 129 in Toronto, it looked like Georges St-Pierre had all but cleaned out the best of the best in the welterweight divisionÂ… except for one person. That one person is on the verge of signing to face St-Pierre later this year in a 170-pound title bout.

Nick Diaz is likely to face St-Pierre for his next UFC welterweight title defense in 2011, with all signs pointing towards a December showdown in Montreal.

Sources have indicated to MMAWeekly.com that a deal is imminent and the fight could be announced as early as next week. Like any potential deal, there is always the chance something could change at the 11th hour, but St-Pierre vs. Diaz is almost a certainty at this point.

I hope Dana knows what to do when Diaz taps that ass.

Nicely played by Diaz. He forced the UFC's hand with his threat to fight Lacey. And it spares us the pain of watching GSP fight a welterweight that he's already dominated.

    Great news if true!
Diaz is one of only a few legitimate fights left for GSP @ 170. (Not suggesting GSP should move up by the way)

Diaz is fun to watch and is a damn good fighter but safety first GSP will be riding dirty on his ass. GSP does not take risks. Here's to hoping Diaz will push the fight big time.

GSP is a hundred times the athlete that Diaz is and he'll take him down anytime he wants to. I expect he'll work him over on the ground like he did Penn and win every round. Diaz will end up bloody as hell with his first dominating loss in years and people will cry that GSP's domination was "boring".
