When to quit - Roy Jones- did he always lack Recoup

I really want to make a wiseass joke about this but it's just sad to see.... nothing funny about it. One hopes he has family/friends who would tell him it's over. In fact, if he does have said people, they are quite late in telling him this as it seems damage has already been done. On the worse side, he's already talking about fighting again.

 

The greats that had the sense to retire "whilst" on top is an exclusive fraternity...Roy fits the bill of the typical fighter who dosent or can't read the handwriting on the wall.

 

to say this about a shot jones is ridiculous. you could point to something about every great fighter that fought on past their prime. he got dropped with a big punch from lou del valle in '98 but he recuperated just fine and continued dominating the fight.

 

If that punch in the 10th that Jones scored was ruled a knockdown, he probably would have had enough steam to go on and win it.

Then again if if's were ****s I wouldn't be sexless on a saturday night.

 

It's just sad, that's all...like watching the old, taped together, shot Joe Louis go through the motions between the Charles and Marciano defeats.

Me feels that Royale Jones, Jr. has always been part pro and part con man.... He was super only when his youth, speed and reflexes were in place.... Once them assets left his body back around 2003 (Tarver 1), Roy Jones, Jr. became a mere mortal man with nothing really special to display anymore in the ring... The 2004 rematch with Tarver was the true story of a fading champion no longer on top of his game... And, well, the fight / KO loss to Glen Johnson basically proved his goose was cooked... Here in 2011, its no more, Roy.... Just stop before you end up like Gerald McClellan.... License revoked....

So he lost when aged 34 for the first time in his pro career and you forget everything that came before? All the divisions he cut through, and the ATG's he beat? This is coming from a man that defends the **** out of WALDO and VITLAY....words fail me when you call Jones a con man dude, they really do.

 

Roy is 8-9 years past his best. He looked like an old man in there, like he has done for a while now. You can't judge his recuperative powers on who he is now. Nonsense.
The Glen Johnson KO was worrying, i never thought he would carry on after that. Yet here we are 7-8 years later and the same thing is happening, only he is and looks a lot older.
Credit him for still being there at the 10th, but time to hang em up Roy. No one wants to see that.

 

The punches that knock you out are the ones that you don't see coming and Jones hasn't seen them coming for almost a decade now.

He has enough fights before his heavyweight jump to gauge his recuperation and chin pretty well I think.
