I had it for DeGale by a point. Not a robbery, far from it - and the closeness of all the scorecards reflected that.
Degale won, aggression in every round, but if you fighting in front of a pro Groves crowd your gonna have to knock him out...
Ifs,Buts and Maybe's yet again.Groves won the fight fair and square.Degale showed how ignorant and ungracious he is.Groves was polite and gracious after the fight,he said Degale was a great fighter, and admitted he had to up his game to beat him.He also said he'd finished with the trash talking and wished Degale all the best for the future.Degale meanwhile slithered off,he wasn't man enough to offer his hand or apologies to Groves, and will now spend the next 5 years saying he was robbed, just like he has since Groves beat him as an amateur.
It was a British and Commonwealth Title fight between two brits. All 3 judges were British. The international judges were for the Cleverly fight.
What this proved is that Degale isn't as good as people thought and Groves is better than what most people thought. I do think Groves did enough to win Degale never really got going.
"on clean effective punching" i still had it in favour of groves, the combos were not as numerous but what was thrown landed, look at the punch stats. although it is debateable who won the last round
Groves beat him, drop it. Degale simply isn't all that. Groves has the heart and mentality of a champion, something Degale lacks.
I had it 7-4-1 in degales favour. However, there were possibly 2 or 3 rounds which could have gone either way.
Biggest problem for De Gale, whether you think he won or lost, is that he allowed Groves to dictate the tempo of the fight. Judges are often taken by this kind of thing, so if De Gale lost, its because he allowed Groves to dictate the tempo, which allowed Groves to look more effective than he actually was at times.
