    Wilton working with Checa
22 May 2011 - Jonny Stapleton Renowned coach Bernardo Checa believes new charge Luke Wilton will take step one on the path to British and European title success when he goes to work on the Holiday Inn show this coming Friday.
Checa, who honed Brian Magee’s skills prior to his world title tilt with Lucian Bute, has been working with the Flyweight for the last seven weeks and has seen enough to predict a bright future for Belfast fighter. The Panamanian coach, who also worked alongside John Breen in the Barney Eastwood glory days, stressed there is room for improvement but believes Wilton has the style and power to make an impact at the weight.
Wilton tops a bill promoted by his father in the Holiday Inn show in Belfast this weekend. The 23 year old should finish a show that includes Ryan Green, Levan Ghvauichava, Tony Nellins, Michael Harvey and Stephen Quinn jnr with a win over Salim Salimov, but Checa believes he can go on to bigger and better things.
“I have been working with Luke for 7 weeks and I have been impressed. Like every fighter there is room for improvement. I am confident he will win this weekend, but I think he can go to British and European level. How far he goes is up to him. You never stop learning as a boxer and we are working on a lot of things,” Checa told www.irish-boxing.com.
“Luke has a good style and he is very powerful at the weight. We are just working on things like lateral movement and head movement and so fort, but again he has the talent to do well.”
Checa also revealed he was working with Martin Rogan for a stint and said Brian Magee is back in training awaiting news on a fight.
“Brian is back in training and working away. He is just awaiting news on his next fight. I am happy with how things are going in the gym and I am looking for more fighters and to make more champions.”

Ya we'll claim him den so:lol: Ya i suppose when u mention the current batch there are not too many that would be renowned as hard-hitters so i definitely take your point.:good I'd say McCloskey (though more sleek and elusive than anything else) could be classed as a very hard puncher when u take the last 2 years into account:think Some of his knockouts were unreal!!

There a bit in the Sunday World about McGuigan's Book Launch 'The Cyclone' in Befast on Thursday (Eastons) and later that afternoon around 5pm in Newry (Buttercrane).

Also, a bit in the News of The World on Frampton, McGuigan looking for a British Title fight before the end of the year v Booth or if he vacates then Quigg.

Brian Magee open to George Groves bout

Irishman says he will consider any offer from Hayemaker

Former European super-middleweight champion Brian Magee has told World Boxing News that he may consider taking on the new British and Commonwealth champion George Groves in the future if the right offer was put on the table. The 35 year-old, who was stopped by IBF belt holder Lucian
Bute in his last outing, was impressed by the Londoner’s performance and hasn’t ruled out a possible match-up next year.

23 year-old Groves, produced his career-best display in taking former Olympic champion James DeGale’s Lonsdale Belt at the O2 Arena in London last night and the former IBO champion says it may come down where the “Saint” lies in the world standings as the southpaw looks to keep himself in world title contention.

“Groves fought a great fight, he was a very worthy winner and stepped up whereas DeGale never,” Magee told WBN.

“I can’t see a bout at the minute, but as he is a double champion now, I am sure he will start climbing the ratings over the next few fights so you never know.

“All fights can be made if the offer is right,” added Magee.

The Belfast-based fighter is looking for a comeback fight after his world title disappointment in Canada last March, which ultimately cost him his European title and Magee will be looking to get back in with a top-ten ranked opponent as time is running out for him to get another crack a genuine world champion.
