I was talking to some boxing fans in work about the fight, & they asked me why the fight wasnt stopped due to Groves cut. It got me thinking, had DeGale been clearly ahead going down the stretch. Do people think the fight might have been stopped? The referee announced the headbutt as accidental, thus any stoppage would have gone to the cards. With the fight being so tight, & with Warren cleary worried that DeGale was losing. I understand exactly why it wasn't stopped. Thoughts? (this is a rubbish thread isn't it? Lol)
nah, I thought Watt was right when he mentioned the cuts stopping the fight at that stage would have been a piece of nonsense. you need to remember both were champions and it was a unification fight and Groves deserved the respect to go on, the cuts weren't serious.
It IS a reach, but look at the farces in recent Khan and Cleverly fights, where ridiculously early stoppages favoured the house fighters.
I wondered the same thing. Remember when Barrera was cut in the Khan fight and couldnt see with a terrible cut, yet the fight was allowed to go on past 4 completed rounds when it should have been stopped, yet in the Cleverly fight before Groves/DeGale, Cleverlys opponent had a cut that to me didnt look as bad as Barreras and the fight was stopped
So Warren pays off the referee and doctor but doesn't bother to bribe the judges? The guy is an amateur.....
All a bit nonesense to me, the fight was clearly not going to be stopped on that none dangerous cut in the last 2 rounds and who's to say the ref knew who was in front
