Have to laugh at those quick to condemn calzaghe for taking a fight with hopkins when Hopkins was apparently OVER THE HILL !
Calzaghe close to end of his own career as well and far from prime, calzaghe got hammered for taking on Hopkins.
Then hopkins goes on to prove he is still very much a threat by beating up Pavlik, and then he just beat a guy who beat dawson.
The same dawson some on here were heralding as the man to smash calzaghe to pieces.
Makes the ridicule of Calzaghe for taking Hopkins fight previously as laughable now.
Now Bernard Hopkins is THE man at light heavy once again, ask Pascal if Hopkins is over the hill
Bernard Hopkins must be some sort of robot to go from Over the hill bum that Calzaghe faced to Light Heavy champ in the blink of an eye.
Or could the truth be that Calzaghe fought a still excellent fighter in BHop and Bhop being the smart tactician he is recognised he couldnt do what he wanted in that fight.
So he tied calzaghe up and hoped for a decision?? :think Nahh that wont be accepted by the haters damn it
Calzaghe took Hopkins on at his own weight class after unifying his own division, it was his very first fight at the weight.
No warm up before facing the man seen as number one light heavy in hopkins own backyard.
Ohh and before going up to light heavy who did Calzaghe beat to unify his super middle division? Ohh thats right Kessler who went on to beat Carl Froch a man who could still win the super six
I see why people call calzaghe a bum :good
I wonder how long it will be before the calls for Calzaghe to come out of retirement and face the once again great Bhop?
Calzaghe has the t shirt been there done that :smooch

It's not that Hopkins wasn't over the hill, it's just that he was only over the hill for the Calzaghe fight. Not before and not after. Convenient, huh?

Funny, I just made a near identical thread.

Calzaghe was about 80% of what he was against Kessler in my estimation, which was about 80% of what he was against Lacy which is about 80% of what he used to be in the Mitchell/Sheika/Veit days.

Hopkins may have not been prime, but he was acting closer to it when you base it on his career performances than Calzaghe was when you look at his career performances.

Sad that calzaghe fans are so insecure that they need to bask in the reflected shine of B-Hops accomplishment. B-Hop was clearly not shot when he faced Calzaghe. They fought a close fight that I think Calzaghe won. Considering Calzaghe has about 2 notable wins including this one makes the concept for this thread even more pathetic. Calzaghe deserves the **** he gets for not stepping up sooner.

    :yep

This excuse is often interwoven with the "Hopkins decided to start going for the KO after the Calzaghe fight" excuse :yep

Im not one who constantly raves about calzaghe or makes a name "calzaghe" or something (even though im a calzaghe fan, the dude got me into boxing) buuuuuuut youd have to put most of that blame on good ol Frank Warren.

Hopkins ducked Calzaghe in his Prime and skipped supermiddle just so he didnt have to fight him. Calz won the Hopkins fight and adjusted, on that night Calzaghe was the better man and especially after the way he fought Pascal Joe would have beaten him any other night too.

That being said the TS is no better than the *****s or *******s. They ruin boxing :-(
