A while back people used to talk about Cintron as a real threat at 147, then he had a bad outing vs. Feliciano and overnight he becomes a bum. Then he pulls out of the unification with Williams and then becomes less than a top tier fighter. Now he talks some jive about Margorito and everybody is talking him up again. Personally I think he could be Williams's biggest threat. He is a hard puncher and if he could land a few right hands he might test that chin of PW that we havent quite seen yet. He is also the closest in height to Williams of all the legit WW's. I think Cintron is good but I agree with alot of people in that he isnt quite there in the top 4 Welterweights, regardless of how much of a bad matchup he is for certain fighters. I was really looking forward to Cintron-Williams, I thought and still think it would be a great fight. I dont think Cintron will ever be able to Unify, Cotto would dispose of him, Mayweather would embarass him, and I think Margorito would put him away the same as last time depending on how fast he starts. Heck, after some of those right hands mosley landed on cotto back in november I think Shane could beat him too. Not that half of those fights would ever happen. He doesnt have enough big wins to fight the big names, the only thing he has going for him is that he has a belt. I think Kermit Cintron will become the gatekeeper of the top-tier welterweights within the next few years.
Kermit Cintron has too many flaws in his game. Yes he's a big big puncher but he has no heart. And when he can't knock his opponent out then he's in BIG trouble. I don't know why in the world he's calling Margarito out but Margarito will KO him again maybe even faster. And I really don't think much of Margarito but I think less of Cintron.
the only fight in which you can say he had no heart was the margarito fight, but he walked into that fight a defeated fighter from outside circumstances. He has shown tons of heart in many of his other fights vs. Teddy Reid, Estrada, and mark suarez. Reid is a very dirty and rough fighter that is, maybe a bigger puncher than cintron and landed those rights against cintron (as well as rabbit punched, and locked arms and threw cintron through the ropes), and cintron KO'd him in 8 rds. Estrada (same guy who gave mosely fits) pushed cintron hard for 10 rds in his first meaningful fight after the margarito debacle, but got KO'd. Suarez, one of the few guys at WW that is bigger than cintron, landed some huge punches on cintron and kept coming forward, but got KO'd in 6. and what about his last fight? busted his hand in the first round against one of the best pressure fighters out there (thats why floyd uses feliciano to spar with), was frustrated for some of the fight, but came away with a KO. It is very trendy to say cintron has no heart, but it is also untrue.
I think Kermits biggest obstacle is in his head, I dont think he has that mental makeup of a Champion and when the going gets tough his confidence is easily shaken. He does have tremendous physical skill. Put Cottos head in Kermits body and he would clean out the welters.
your right... he does has heart, but you can clearly see its limits in fights like margarito and even feliciano... there were more then a few times in that fight where cintron was giving up, he just happened to be in there with a warrior with no execution skills nor real power. I agree.... cintron does have heart, your examples prove that indeed. but imo it is a weak spot of his... desplaying heart against estrada doesnt mean your will wont be broken when fighting a margarito, williams, cotto, ect. he was able to desplay his heart against estrada imo because of estradas limitations and lack of power, i dont however think he will be that brave nor that determined when facing a true threat, LIKE a margarito again, cotto, williams, ect. elite punchers and pressure fighters. IMO
I can kind of agree with this. I think confidence is his major issue, but i think that confidence is what he is getting the most of having manny steward in his corner. kerm has always been a shy guy (ive known him since we were in 4th grade). he was always a standout athlete in every sport, but he was never cocky or a braggart, which is something you kind of need in boxing. it seems that manny is teaching him to believe in himself a little more, and im sure just having that name in your corner is a confidence booster. I see a lot of pictures of him and pauli the magic man malinaggi together... maybe cintron's taking some lessons!
Kermit Cintron had what Jake La Motta lacked, the talent to be a champion. What Cintron lacks is La Motta's heart.
I'm not totally sold on Paul Williams. He beat a very flawed fighter in Margarito, and though Cintron is perhaps even more flawed, I do think he is stronger in certain areas than Margarito, perhaps enough so to beat Williams.
