Last week was a significant week for boxing.
For me, Bhop > ROY JJ.

    What do y'all think?

Watch the people who come and say 'RJJ but if BHop can get one more big win....' they've been spouting the same bull**** since the Tarver fight.

    Resume: I prefer Roy's.
H2H: I think Roy was the better fighter in their primes.
Accomplishments: I really think BHOP's may seem far greater to people based on what seems fresh---a groundbreaking achievement VS a shitty devastating kayo in their last fights on the same recent day. I don't believe BHOP's achievements are a level above Roy's. It's simply amazing/far greater longevity, not necessarily better accomplishments. To compare it to something, Foreman's longevity>>>Frazier's...but I consider them close in overall historical standing for a variety of reasons, even considering their fight together. I still rate Roy higher but I can understand arguing the other case and don't feel all that strongly about it. I put little into anything that's been going on with Roy since the first Tarver fight and almost nothing of anything since the Green fight.

I dont really think it should be a contest now, especially after Roy got knocked out again.

I sum it up like this...
    Better talent-Jones
    Better Career-Hopkins
    Better resume-Hopkins
    Better style-Jones

The crazy part is Jones COULD of really done more if he was tested in his prime and fought more quality fights..Hopkins resume has at least 3 bonafide HOF and in or close to their prime.

Prime4prime Roy takes it, but Bhop seems to have a better resume everytime he fights.

I love them both but had Hopkins>Jones before Pascal.

Jones wins H2H in a prime match up but Hopkins has defied the doubters so many times now that he eclipses anything Jones has done career wise and by a country mile.

Prime 4 Prime RJJ could beat any lightheavyweight.
But he has put his legacy into doubt and when compared to hopkins, really isnt a contest for me.

prime for prime, i think roy is ahead of b-hop. roy defeated b-hop in their primes but talk about resume-wise, i think b-hop takes it.

Thats what i thought. For that matter i don't really think jones was either.

It seems they fought before their primes and after their primes.

Not really during the peak of their careers.

The question became ridiculous around Hopkins' schooling of Tarver and he made history over and over again ever since.

Did Roy ever capture a true legitimate championship? How many P4P-ers did he ever beat at the time and how many did Hopkins? How close/debated were his losses? How did he fare vs. common opposition? How brave was his opponent selection? How many title defenses?

Jones beat a pre-prime Hopkins, BHop beat a post-prime Roy making it a tie, every other category is dominated by Hopkins. Longer and LEGIT reign (MW vs. LHW), 6 times more P4P-ers beaten, very close debated losses, 3-1 3KOs over common opposition (Roy is 2-4 w/2KO losses), no ducking but PERSONALLY picking top prospect Taylor, P2P#2 awkward Winky, travelling to Canada to fight Pascal etc.

You see some fighters create buzz off spectacular fighting style and hype and given ATG credit before achieved. Others however work their way through the ranks with hard work and put down SUBSTANCE over style and average Joe and Jane give them hard time come ranking because they lack flair and media hype.

Hopkins' career laughs all over Jones' and we didn't need this past weekend to see it. Or even the past 3 years.

As many people for many years - I had Roy in front on BHop - but the longer they both continue to fight and with the outcomes they way they've been - this has been changing for me over the past 4 years. At this point in time - I have Hopkins in front of Roy.

They both have had great careers - setting records - breaking records - achieving milestones - but ones legacy continues to grow - while ones legacy is starting to tarnish. Hopkins dominated the Middleweight Division - while Roy dominated the Light Heavyweight Division. Both moved up in weight and continued their success. Roy was more exciting than BHop - but because Hopkins refused to be used or played by the big time promoters - he didn't get as much exposure as Roy did. Nevertheless - it doesn't take away from his accomplishments. To defend your title 20 times and even in your loses - you were highly competitive - to where some people had him winning (Taylor, Calzage).

Since they're being compared by their overall careers and both of their career and still moving forward - it's hard not to have Hopkins ahead of Roy at this point.

Agreed. And if I had to pick overall rating, I would go with Hopkins. If Roy was challenged more in his prime, AND hung em up at a reasonable time he would surpass Hopkins in ATG status. As it stands now I see them both in the Top 50 somewhere between 40 and 50.

  15. roy jones even in his prime never fought anyone of note. u could argue that hopkins was his best victory ever. toney maybe. toney is overrated and so is jones.
