There are many, but one that sticks out, is the night of Gatti vs Mayweather...

I didn't expect Gatti to win, but I didn't expect it to go down like that. It was a sad night for me, because that was night I realized Gatti was all but done pulling out crazy comebacks in the boxing world. His heart was there though.

 

And other random nights I'll never forget -

DLH vs PBF, Ortiz vs Berto (oh mah gawd!!), Pac vs Hatton, Klitschko vs Brewster I, Cotto vs Mosley, Clazaghe vs Kessler, Johnson vs RJJ, Toney vs Jirov (oh mah gawd!!).

Plenty more, but I'm sure those of you older than me, who have been fans longer know how it is to have countless memorable nights at/watching the fights.

 

I actually missed Tyson vs. Douglas. I was 14 years old, my parents were divorced and it was my weekend at my mom's. Sometimes, I would ask her permission to head over to dad's to watch a big fight, but I, like everybody else, figured Tyson would just destroy him, so I stayed at mom's. When we got back from dinner, I flipped on SportsCenter and saw that Douglas shocked the world.

That memory always stands out. I'm the biggest boxing fan in my group of friends and watch tons of fights. But I missed what will probably prove to be the greatest upset of my lifetime.

not me. i knew it was gonna happen sooner or later, the way he use to put his head forward with his left hand down. :verysad

 

Leonard-Hagler.

 

when larry merchant was fighting during an interview. when erik morales lost to raheem and morales corner told him to watch out for the referee and placed water in his balls but didn't tell him what to do about raheem, paulie mallanagi getting a haircut in the ring. norman stone getting kicked out during the golata fight.

 

Pernell Whitaker vs. Oscar de la Hoya stood out because Oscar was a force back then, and watching Sweet Pea duck and weave freaking body shots was simply amazing.

Pretty much grew up on USA Tuesday Night Fights....so that program as a whole really sticks out and allowed me to be exposed to boxing consistently. I'm not a DLH fan, but I also remember watching USA Tuesday night fights and it was his 5th or 6th fight...I was maybe 12 or 13, and I was in awe of this good looking, well spoken, Olympic Gold medalist. It was a combination of toughness, grace and All-American that was really captivating. Especially because it was everything I was not...that kind of stuff stuck out when you're a kid and see someone who is everything you want to be.

Of course, as I got older and more exposed to DLH...I became a fan of "the other guy".

Tito Trinidad vs. Sweet Pea...end of an era, start of another.

And the first Morales vs. Barerra fight. I'd never seen that kind of action in a single round, much less 12 sustained rounds. It was moving to see two fighters put everything they had out in the open.

 

I loved Tuesday Night Fights. There were some consistent KO's on that program.

Also, in SoCal, we had Fight Night at the Forum and Chick Hearn would sometimes call the fights. Not always the most talented fighters, but they would have regional/ethnic matchups (black dude from watts vs. mexican from east los) that would get the crowd really into it.

Was in the ol' Garden that night, BF. Your distant cousin boxed beautifully --great hand speed 'n springs for legs.

 

watching hattons head bounce off the turnbuckle in the 10th round of the mayweather fight, was a sad sight.

 

1 leonard beating hagler - my 2 favourite fighters ever. i thought leonards performance after 1 fight in 5 years was outstanding.

2 hagler v hearns - loved the tension from the both hating each other and was over the moon when hagler won

3 tyson v douglas - couldn't believe what i was watching

4 lewis v tyson - one of the best build ups to a fight ever, you wasn't sure what was gonna happen with tysons mental state but lewis gave a masterclass

5 hatton v tyszu - one of the most underated performances of modern times. if someone like floyd had of beaten tyszu at that time, he would have recieved so much more credit. hatton was a wreckin machine that night ( a dirty one at that).
