TS I get your point. This fight should be like a 2-1 or just above even money fight but its not. But one thing I don't get is this "does the old man have one more good fight left in him?" bit? When was the last bad fight Glenn had in him. All he does is fight good fights. He has one hell of a shot. I'd make Froch the favourite simply because I think he is a true natural power puncher, unlike Cloud and a lot of other fighters Glenn has been facing over his career. But don't get it wrong Glenn has a great freaking chance he is fast, powerful, and fights at a pace that would be too much for Froch to sustain. So if he can force Froch to fight at his pace and not get caught with the bombs he can knock Froch the **** out or win an easy decision. Power and boxing ability is Froch's best assest in this fight. He's going to need as much of both as he can get to win and of Froch can't knock him out early I think this could very well be the fight of the year.
He's over 40 years old. Boxing is not an old man's sport, especially with Johnson's style. I've seen a lot of older fighters fall apart seemingly overnight.
Ya you are right about that. Espesh with the weight cut. That just adds an extra bit to it. Maybe getting down the first time was do able but having to stay down might take its toll. When they start getting up their you always have to hold your opinions a bit until you see them in the ring.
Almost certainly what will happen. Johnson will have his moments I am sure, I just don't think he will have enough against the pressure of Froch.
As a Froch fan, I am quite worried about this fight. I don't think it's ideal for him stylistically and Johnson can never be written off against any opponent. I think it'll be a tough fight and, honestly, I do have a few concerns. If Froch wins convincingly, I think it's possibly his best win after the Pascal one. Johnson, despite his age, really is a good fighter. I know that if Froch wins, the people who dislike him will be saying "He's an old man, who had he beaten" and so on, but anyone discounting him before the fight is a fool. He's a tough ******* who has only lost to the best in recent years and Froch's style suits Johnson too. It'll be a hard fight. As a Froch fan, I'm nervous because Johnson commands a lot of respect. I'd pick Johnson over everyone at 168lbs aside from Ward, Kessler and Froch. Him and Bute would be 50/50, I think, and I'd also pick Johnson over Pavlik, Sartison, Stieglitz, Dirrell, Abraham and Taylor. Very good match up and, like I said, as a Froch fan, I'm nervous. I think Froch will win but I expect a tough bout.
Glen by KO near the 8th. Froch will not know what to do with glen right in his face and I don't see froch really landing anything with any consistancy besides his Jab which I feel will get negated also. Froch will have to exchange because glen is going to get inside just as he done with more skillful, tactical fighters than froch. Glen is a nightmare for someone with poor defense, footspeed and average at best hand speed. Glen will get inside while not receiving too many clean shots from the froch. Glen will see them coming. Froch on the otherhand doesn't not have the ability to be offensive and defensive at the same time which glen can do and that will be the difference. The one who will be catching most of the big, unseen shots on the chin while swinging is Froch. He just does not have it in him to move his head while punching and glen will be capitolizing. Froch will be hurt while on the move by the big overhand gorilla club right hand of Johnson (possibly dirty to the back of the head). Then Johnson will finish him off. Johnson By KO 8 in a fight he dominates from the 3rd on. Bout to post this prediction as a thread
Johnson will win if he can take a few of those right hands without being put on ***** street. This is coming from someone who predicted that Froch would win an easy decision against Abraham using jabs and bodyshots. Froch is a rangy fighter. He is deceptively skilled at arm's length and has a lot of power in his right hand. He also has good stamina and punch resistance and is dangerous for the full twelve Glen Johnson is one of the best fighters in the sport at getting inside. If GJ at this stage of his career is gonna face a fighter of Froch's caliber, he would want him to be lanky and relatively slow handed so that he can get inside and do his work. Unlike Abraham, Glen Johnson knows how to slip a jab and get inside. In fact that's one of his biggest strength, while Abraham was the polar opposite. The only question is... when Froch hits Johnson with that killer right hand, will Johnson be able to take the punch?? At 175 i would say yes, but at 168 i don't know. I was discussing this with a friend and he basically said "A top caliber fighter should be able to beat a 43 year old weight drained Glen Johnson" His analysis is pretty simple and doesn't really take styles into account, but in a way he's probably right. Froch has at least shown by going toe to toe with Kessler for 12 rounds, beating Dirrell (although controversial), whooping Abraham, knocking out Taylor, and schooling Pascal... that he is a top caliber fighter. But personally I like Johnson's chnaces.
Johnson is at +300 on SportsBook. Thinking about putting some money down. Pressure fighters are very difficult to beat and Johnson seems to still be going strong.
Put it this way ,i Hope Froch is prepared for a war . But knowing Froch, he always is . Which makes this fight exciting .
Honestly, I'm normally an X's and O's type guy (check my predictions if you don't believe) but I think people are over thinking this fight. I admitt as much as I love both of these fighters it's hard not too. Forget about age Johnson is a come forward fighter and Froch is a power puncher. Nuff said. Don't really have to take it further then that. I don't think Johnson is going to get knocked out but he's going to have the sacrifice a lot of his usual rambunctiousness in order to see the final bell. Don't get me wrong if I'm not correct with regards to Froch's punching power it IS going to be a long night for him because he can't fight no the inside. But neither could Forman it didn't stop him from knocking the **** out of Joe Frazer. p.s. Tavoris Cloud is not a power puncher. He's a guy that winds up on big shots and throws them really hard. He also has good work rate and speed. But punchers are born and he doesn't have the same kind of break you down **** Froch is packing. Froch is more on the level of a Miguel Cotto or something like that, where his shots not only hurt his opponents they stay with them for the rest of fight.
Most probable outcome - Froch UD (50%) Second - Froch KO (20%) - Johnson KO (20 %) Third - Johnson UD 10%
I expect Glen to fight tough like he always does, but I'd be surprised to see him beat Froch. I think the Cobra's a clear favorite in this one.
