Fairish stoppage for me not the worst I've seen by a long way. There seems to be alot of hate towards Foster going around at the minute, unfairly in my opinion

Worst refereeing performance I can remember was the French ref for McLellan-Benn

Edit: Sven Ottkes guy with Robin Reid was worse but funny

I thought I would give my old thread a bump. I started this thread in 2011, long before Groves-Froch 1. What's the next fight Foster will wreck?

It's this kind of thing, imo, that lets our refs get away with such incompetence.

No, they shouldn't be stopping fights early. They should be learning the correct point at which to stop fights. If that means more risk to the fighters, well it's a dangerous combat sport--it's supposed to be brutal--and they have a choice of whether they want to do it or not.

This I agree with 100%, boxing's popularity is based on the risk participants face in the ring, that's what is unique about it. Although I am not a huge fan of Tony Week's as a referee, I thought his stoppage of Angulo was perfect. The reason being that although Angulo was very capable of lasting to the final bell, it's those type of fights where dudes are taking huge pot shots round after round that cause fatalities. It was unusual for a fight to be stopped on a single shot but I applaud Weeks for perhaps setting a standard in those particular circumstances. However Foster just hardly ever seem's to get it right. Froch-Groves was not an Angulo-Alvarez type fight, it was stopped way too soon. Even if foster had allowed Groves to take a couple more shots, it wouldn't have done him permanent damage.

I don't know how far that is correct. They may get more credit from the public because of the dangerous nature of it... but then various sports are dangerous.

I would like to see the risks reduced if it were possible, but not if what happens is that you end up with a British ref watered-down fake version of boxing. I want to see the real thing where boxers are given the chance to survive and fire back and turn fights around.

Also, it makes us look corrupt (rightly or wrongly) when the home fighter gets a TKO so easily.

Good call, on the payroll Foster, without a doubt. The amount of times he does early stoppages for the house fighter tells you all you need to know.

Corrupt ****, like all the in house Ricky Hatton refs we used to see. So getting slid cash on the side it's blatantly obvious to see.

Roger Tilleman (not sure if I've spelt that right).
I remember he warned Reid for punching Ottke in the face. Reid returned to his corner with a bemused face like "what can I do, I'm not allowed to punch him"

Then he ruled a knockdown a slip or something and deducted a point from Reid shortly after.

Referee's instructions are, according to the BBBOC, "when I say break you must break".no physical force should be required.
If this rule was implemented, and adhered to more strictly we would not see the clinching and mauling we do in the German and US rings.
