is jake lamotta overated or underrated?

in 100 fights he was never counted out.one of the best body punchers/infighters of all time. first person ever to beat sugar ray when he was in his prime, no one else has that claim. i think that must count for something.

 

It depends who you ask really, imo he is a bit of both, but overall I`d say he is underrated.

 

I think LaMotta is a great fighter, you can see it in his movement, obviously durable as hell, tough as teak and cement head for sure, some great wins,

but like Power Punch said a lot of WWs cum MWs and yet Jake struggled with MW weight limits, he was the natural bigger man. I have pointed this out often and the french Villimain is the best example of that...

Steele, McAvoy, Apostili, Zale, Cerdan rematch and more yet I think could have bettered him more often than not.

his film has elevated his status, but a great fighter none the less.

 

S, just about my feelings about LaMotta.He started out with the toughies.
Just think ,in his first eighteen months as a fighter,LaMotta had THIRTY TWO
bouts with the likes of Jimmy Reeves, Jimmy Edgar, Nate Bolden,Jose Basora, Vic Dellicurti, and some tomato can named Ray Robinson. Remarkable,I think
to start a career. No one was tougher ! Better ,yes, but none tougher ...
