They might use Jonathan Banks..... he's of similar dimensions to Haye, but he's a lazy bum who has only fought one decent fighter and was banged up and stopped, by Adamek. There isn't anyone that really resembles Haye in either division, plus you don't really know whether he's going to be the balls to the wall puncher which comes natural to him or the manufactured pocket picker that we've seen more recently. The best thing for Wlad IMO is to spar allsorts, and just get in tip top condition, and plan to dominate using his wingspan.
Good choice. Say what you like about Haye, but he prepares for a fight very, very seriously indeed. also, the Ruiz victory is a bit underrated. Ruiz and Valuev are two very, very good names to have on the CV given claims that he should have fought better at heavyweight. Solid top 10-ers, even at that stage of their careers.
Yeah, Banks and Afolabi are the usual suspects. Not exactly the best, but like you said, it's hard to find a fighter with a style that matches Haye's.
It's never easier to replicate anybody thats top class. You can only really take certain aspects of their style at a lower level. Wlad will be looking for movers, people with handspeed and footspeed, and reasonable punchers. Haye's made a couple of good choices, Helenius can do a decent impression. So can Price. Thompson has a bit more handspeed with it.
Sanders had far, far more about him than Haye ever will have. Tbh Sanders might just be the best HW south paw the sport has seen. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiN2TbZdPSY"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiN2TbZdPSY[/ame] It wasn't a fluke he took out Wlad early, he took almost everybody out early. To the people that underrate Sanders I think you should watch his 3 fights against elite opposition, Wlad, Rahman and Vitali. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGnrg5hAHU0"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGnrg5hAHU0[/ame] yes he may well of lost against a prime Rahman but he came into this fight as an underdog and made it one of the best fights of the decade, flooring rahman and beating him before the ref stopped it. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqEANlBbhsA"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqEANlBbhsA[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USxJeHV1pd8"][/ame] Nothing needs to be said here to the actual boxing fans, but to the casuals they really need to be reminded that what Sanders did here was what he did throughout his career. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USxJeHV1pd8"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USxJeHV1pd8[/ame] Similar to the Rahman defeat casual fans just seem to look at the result on boxrec and just dismiss this as another Vitali KO, but that is not the case. Sanders threw every thing at Vitali in the early rounds and was unlucky not to become the first man to take Vitali down. Only Lewis thus far has managed to take on Vitali in a war like this before or after as well as Sanders, props to Sanders. Even though Sanders became a World champ you can't help but feel he has under achieved, imagine if he American coming through their ranks rather than South Africa.
Moorer and Byrd were much better than Sanders IMO. Saying that Corrie is the best Southpaw heavyweight is a massive statement, and one that I respectfully disagree with.
Byrd was a really effective fighter, especially when you consider that he wasn't much more than an overblown super middle that decided to use his speed and ringsmarts at HW and went all the way. Only Wlad and Vitali really dominated him - he showed plenty of stones against Ike and also Holyfield too. Actually if he was five or six years younger he might not be a bad sparring partner for this fight if you got him to go orthodox.
Thanks for posting the Sanders v Rahman fight. Very entertaining, like a lesser version of Foreman v Lyle. Looked like Sanders had no stamina there. He maybe was among the most naturally powerful HW lefties. Stamina and training maybe were his weak points. Perhaps Haye thinks the Wlad fight is his blueprint, in that if he stuns Wlad, he won't be able to recover as was the case with Sanders. We will see. I think Sanders had better offense than Haye. A naturally powerful HW, though Haye is faster.
