here we are discussing if the fighters of today are actually pure boxers and not just brawlers but forgetting the fighters of today even though i would have to agree with Teddy, fans! yes fans! are forgetting that people like Teddy Atlas, Emanuel Stweards and yes hate them all you want but also the Mayweather Family are veterans of the sport! been there done that kinda guys! people assume because they say stuff against someone who people see to be a great fighter that they dont now what there saying! these guys have seen the likes of Sugar Ray, Ali, Tyson and the rest such as the Fantastic Four! (duran Learnord Hagler Hearns) and if they were to compare them to the boxers of today then yes they were better at what they did and how they went around it.

these guys are the real experts not the bull**** people on espn!
and dont start calling me a floyd guy because im not a fan! (BHOP & COTTO) just saying what it is

I was watching the fight with my dad. Who used to love boxing. But doesnt watch it much anymore. And even he was able to point out how flawed Pascal was. No disrespect to Hopkins, but he's past it and can be hurt. And he wouldnt have been champion this late in his career in a stronger era.

Look how many champions we have in their mid-30's. Its clear boxing is weak right now.

I agree there used be as many pure boxers per divsion as they are in all of boxing right now. especially the new class of dudes that came out post 2000, there are very few.

pure boxers post 2000: Donaire, Dawson, Khan, Dirrell, Chambers, Ward, Guerrero, Bute

there's guys that have been around for a while that are good pure boxers like Mayweather/ Hopkins/ Calderon/ Marquez/ Chris John/ Cory Spinks/ Sturm but not even many of those.

Always amazed me how fast boxing fans/media types line up to crap on their sport. Regardless of the actual level(s) of truth contained within their latest rant of interest.

For once...he's right. Old school fighters took years to learn their craft and was in the gym almost every day. Today's fighters are part-time fighters. It's really sad to see the decline in skill level from the 80s to today.

Actually, he has not been hit in head enough. I know that in early 1980's he critiicszied fighters of that time, and always knocked other trainers, although he had not done **** as trainer or boxer himself. His whole carreer is based on a few things: Claiming he was Tyson' trainer (A lie) knocking others, and taking other people's fighters and ****ing them up (Moorer was exception, took Atlas a while to ruin him) He got Shannon Briggs early, bailed on him in 1997, said he was a nothing going nowhere, got Michael l Grant and ****ed him up, now he has Povetkin.

Don't forget, until 2 years ago, he said Klitschko's boht sucked. Then he turned down bout with them when he got Povetkin. Maybe he needs to get acontender in welterwieght division, and have guy get offered title shot agianst Pacquino, for him to say "Paqunio is too good."

Teddy Atlas is an idiot. And he is NOT right. Anyone who holds on to the past will never be able to see the present and the future clearly. I love the greats as much as anyone else, but many modern fighters are great fighters too. Jones could have beaten anyone around his weight class in his prime. Calzaghe would have given anyone hell around his weigh. Pac would have been devastating in any era.

As with everything, we look at the past with a brighter light than the present, and some people get blinded by it. We have a lot of great fighters in the present and the present past, and many of them are greater than the old fighters.

So what if the modern fighters rely on athleticism? What generation of fighters hasn't relied on their athleticism? Jack Johnson was a physical freak. So was Jack Dempsey. Even Joe Louis was a physical specimen during his time. Ali was a physical marvel, so was Fraizer. And how about George Foreman? Hearns was a freak of an athlete, so was Leonard.

It's wrong to demonize modern fighters for using their athletic gifts. Many of the them are very good to great and they use their unique set of skills to become successful. I for one believe there are many great modern fighters.

Teddy is like a windmill. Sometimes the windmill spins. and when the windmill spins the wind could do a lot of damage to the barn. I think Teddy is like the barn by the windmill.

    teddy being teddy

Tonight we will see if fighter "x" still has miles left to spin the windmill and if fighter "y" can avoid the damage from the roof caving in on the barn.
if fighter "y" can avoid that damage and clip his toenails he should win the fight.

result fighter "y" avoids the damage, clips his toe nails and still gets ktfo.

Heard of the Difference between full time Athletes than those that work full time as well. Put the two groups under the same training condition and what would be the result . Most morons on here wouldn't have a clue. The Communists Broke records because they were full time Athletes Didn't they ?
