I don't think he was knocked unconscious but I def think he got a concussion. The confusion and everything else is very consistent with a concussion. I don't think anything was fishy about any of the in ring ****. I def think they used it as an excuse to pull out of the tournament though. The perceived their stock to have been much higher after the first two fights than what it was when they signed up. They felt they deserved and could get more money for the Ward fight so they made the biz decision to bow out. I don't think he's a coward, I just think his team is greedy/unethical. That being said I think it was extremely shortsighted in that they haven't made money in a year, they are potentially black listed from the premium channels, and citing neurological issues is about the stupidest thing a boxer could do.

 

No. Because he knows if he came back too soon people would know he's a fraud and he'd get no money so the argument that the longer he leaves it the less money het gets isn't a valid one.

 

I disagree 100%! He got whacked on the floor! Maybe the situation was exaggerated slightly because of his reaction after the fight. But he wasn't acting. He was genuinely confused as to what had happend and the order of the series of events.

 

He was capable to box against Ward but chose not to. His team are now suffering the consequences because Showtime don't want to put his ass on their boxing cards for the time being... Don't look for reasons anywhere else.

 

I don't pretend to know medicine but in an amateur fight I had, I suffered a concussion and memory loss without ever losing consciousness. When the fight was stopped I was complaining and my trainer and my dad sent me to the back to take a shower. About 20 minutes later they found me just wondering around not knowing how I had got there. My point is I don't remember any of this and I was conscious the whole time.

Just curious...what "evidence" of a brain injury are you asking for? You do realize that today's medical imaging isn't useful for diagnosing concussions.

There is also a HUGE difference beween "sparring" and fighting. How many shades of sparring have you seen in the gym...it comes in all flavors.

 

How about a statement from a REAL doctor?

Listen. Sparring means there's an overt risk of getting punched in the head. Even though I'm a layman I guarantee you that no REAL doctor would allow sparring when you suffer from a serious braininjury.

There is this thing known as patient confidentiality involved too. HIPPA guidelines and all that.

Your guarantee would suggest that any physician who follows the CDC's "Return to Play" guidelines is not a REAL doctor.

If you take a look at the "ACE" for school or work, it has a step-wise checklist of return to play...try to put in in the context of boxing, and you'll see what I mean.

Also, it should be noted that just because he may or may not be sparring, doesn't mean he's doing it with a doctor's endorsement. In fact, it could be playing a part in delaying his return to competition because a doctor won't clear him. He would have to symptom free to get signed off, and if he's not...well, there yo have it. He wouldn't be fighting.
