Yup. If Chambers/Thompson happens in August then the winner will be the #3 heavyweight (or #4 if Haye upsets Wlad). Solis might be up there too if he got the weight down.
Adamek- Detractors were right, he was way too small and lacked power to stand a change against even an 40 year old Vitali. Povetkin- Never held a legit belt (interim WBC, regular WBA only), but has been a top10 HW for well over a decade, and regularly within the top3 during that period. His biggest issue, Wlad and Vitali held all the belts during his peak, didn't get his WBC shot at the end of it (meldonium), and now has to deal with the next generation while past it. Nowadays always mentioned among the likes of Tua and Ike as the some of the greatest HW's that never held one of the major belts. edit: The likes of Thompson, Pulev and yes even Boystov should have been in this list too at the time. Chagaev- Big name among the 00's and early 10's. What could have been if he hadn't gotten ill and like Povetkin, didn't have to deal with them pesky Klitschko's. Solis- Again, the detractors were right. Didn't have enough to stand up against the Klitschko's and didn't have the dicipline to keep himself in shape. Arreola- Too easy to hit, too much blubber, and despite being tough as nails, just too easy to hit. Chambers- Another detractor nail on the head. Too small, too little power, too complacent, too much American 00's HW.
Yeah, they were too large for Povetkin to beat them up. Povetkin still had earned a lot $ and looks never had bad habits, therefore should have not small savings. He really often had been ranked in top3, more often in top 5 for long, long years. then top 8 lists. Now he is ranked above Whyte despite he is old and after this ilness with hospitalisation etc.
This thread just tells me how much the HW division has improved from 10 years ago. Wilder Ruiz Povetkin Whyte Joyce Usyk Hrgovic Hunter Chisora Parker Ortiz Dubois Yoka
