It shouldn't matter that he thought he was "competitive". For an elite boxer, a legend, shouldn't "competitive" be a dirty word? Shouldn't that alone be the reason to hang them up, just being "competitive" against domestic level titleholder?

"Competitive" is the term used to describe professional gatekeepers. Roy deserves better than "competitve".

So he's become the cruiserweight version of Holyfield - he won't retire until he wins the Cruiserweight title, he said. He also said that it wasn't age that made him lose against Lebedev, but "ring rust", and claimed he almost knocked Lebedev out twice.

He believes the solution is to bring someone else into his camp, and to fight again for the title against another titleholder, with whom he's working on a deal over the next few weeks.

Typical delusional talk from a past it boxer.

Its interesting cause he said this mystery trainer that he wants to bring on board has wanted to work with him since 4 years ago. Hes dropped 3 straight and is nowhere near title contention plus hes 42 now not 38 so I cant see anyone taking him up. Roy ****ed up by fighting Lebedev cause he could have easily beat 2 stiff and got a title shot against Huck. Not that he would have won, but it would have been no more difficult than fighting Lebedev. Horrible business decision. If he must fight it should be a farewell fight in Pesacola against a journeyman.

Jones was losing a wide decision and Lebedev looked like he was toying with Roy at times.

Yes, Roy did better than I thought and would have defeated the Russian in his prime but let's not get carried away.

By the way, boxing could really use a "senior's tour" like the PGA does with golfers. The old timers who can't give it up can fight each other in 6 round fights on the undercards of major matches. They can make some money and not get permanently hurt by younger, stronger guys.

Rematch with Lacy for worst career ending fight belt. The ole CEF belt.

"What hook" vs "ya'll musta forgot"
Will bobble head rear its ugly head 18 seconds before the final bell, or will Lacy be a bloodied pulp hollering "calzaghe's MY daddy, not Roy's" after the dust settles.

sounds like not too bad an idea, BUT you'd then have guys like Iran Barkley, Tommy Hearns, and Saul Mamby tyring to fight guys like RJJ or others who can still bang a little and are only like 35-45. Boxing's just too dangerous a sport for a senior's league. U could consider headgear but a lot of the fan interest is in seeing blood, guts, and kos so that probably wouldn't work. The only solution is probably mandatory neuro exams for guys over like 35 with the added costs going to the fighters and some mechanism to look out for fighters thru their careers(some sort of oversight to hear disputes over contracts/purse divisions and some type of mandatory payment from purses into the fighters retirement)

roy's a sad case. he must need $ and he has enuff to 'compete' on some level but is really risking his health w/ any dangerous puncher
