I'd go with Marquez. I think Marquez would frustrate Barrera from the outside, and the prime Barrera brawled a bit too much. I think Barrera gets countered all night and loses a UD, something like 116-112.
You went with Marquez but Marquez still doesn't have a vote yet while Barrera already has 3 wins by UD. I'd go with Barrera. A past his prime Barrera was still able to KD Marquez, what more in his prime. I still respect Marquez so I'll just give Barrera a win by UD.
difficult question. a past prime barrera gave a marquez a close tough fight, a clear JMM win none the less. but then again, that version of JMM has been slipping as well. tough pick. i voted draw, as i'm 50/50 on it. i'm very very slightly leaning towards JMM, but not enough for me to vote for a JMM win, i'd just make him the favorite. prime morales, who was a good and tall stand up boxer/puncher would have won a clear decision against JMM imo.
He got a KD, but Marquez didn't seem hurt and he outboxed Barrera 9-3. And do you think that was a prime Marquez fighting? I don't.
Thats a good matchup, I have a tough time picking a winner. Part of me thinks Morales gets outboxed, part of me thinks Morales steamrolls through Marquez.
Marquez all day every day. Marquez's finishing skills are as underrated as Barrera's boxing skills are overrated. Before you bash me, this is coming from a Barrera fan. I am far more a fan of Barrera's than I am of Marquez. Barrera's brawling plays into JMM's counterpunching and he gets picked apart if he tries to make it a boxing match. A matter of picking his poison. Don't forget that Marco was getting handily outboxed by Morales when he tried turning their second fight into a boxing match. He found success by reverting back to brawler mode. Doing so against JMM just accelerates the inevitable.
I don't think that MAB was THAT old in his fight against JMM that the outcome would be different at any other year, but my main point is this: Don't forget JMM is a year OLDER than MAB, he is 34 years old, he too has 50+ fights, 10++ pro boxing years and he was always a very good fighter who was unfortunately avoided. He's a boxing genius but of course in the tearms of HOF MAB and EM had bigger fights and bigger wins. I would still pick JMM over Barrera in let's say 2002. Also JMM over Morales. But those would be close fights. Another thing: WHO WOULD YOU PICK among these fights? Barrera vs. Rafael Marquez in SBW Barrera vs. Israel Vazquez in SBW Morales vs. Vazquez in SBW Morales vs. R. Marquez in SBW PacMan vs. Vazquez in SBW Morales vs. Guzman in SBW
barrera KO 8 rafael barrera ud 12 vasquez pacman KO 8 vasquez (he used to be pac's sparring partner and vice versa) morales UD 12 vasquez morales KO 6 rafael undecided as i have not seen enough of guzman at 122
Marquez was even older than Barrera during their fight. Marquez is also clearly past his best. His reflexes and speed clearly show it. In my opinion, Juan Manuel Marquez beats Barrera seven times out of ten.
Am I the only one that realizes that niether man was at his best when they fought? I think at any point of their careers Marquez poses the style to give Barrera fits.
