Williams' opponent is no different to the level the vast majority of all boxers with a bit of a name begin their careers.

I actually like SBW, I reckon he could do ok once trained up properly.
At least he looks the goods and comes to the ring conditioned.

 

I agree on the conditioning part Sox. Liava'a has fought better fighters than Williams, still I don't see him causing him any problems.

 

Why on earth do people go to these events or even watch them for free in a pub ?

Would watch Mundine vs Toliver for free. But wouldn't cross the street for Sonny Bill Williams vs the overweight loser they have him matched up against.

I'd argue that for Sonny Bill's level, he will be reasonably competitive. He's been twelve rounds before and won and fought (and lost to I might add) to the likes of Mirovic, Kirby and Big Daddy Browne. It's no different to how most, if not all, prospects are matched. Do I think it's PPV quality? Nope.

 

For Sonnys skill level and being a novice, the matchup is about right. More a amateur bout if anything...the fact that Sonny comes in conditioned and fit is what makes the matchup look weak. Not a bad payday for a part-time boxer!
