I know its an old subject, but i thought i would chime in, after listening to a recent floyd interview. Seems to me that all this talk about floyd being afraid is nonsense. I honestly believe the man is not afraid of anyone. He thinks way to high of himself. His ego is one of the biggest I have ever seen. On top of that, he has never lost so im sure he thinks he is unbeatable, as most undefeated fighters do. In my opinion, this reason this fight has never been made is because of the ego's of mayweather and arum. Both want it done on their own terms, and neither is willing to yield. It's that simple. I do think there is one way to get mayweather in the ring without letting him dictate everything however. And it isn't money. The one thing more important to that man than money is his self esteem. If pacquiao were to embarrass him, I mean really **** him off to the point where he felt uncomfortable even around his on people, he wouldn't hesitate to do it. The guy has a temper, and he has the biggest ego on the planet, plus his image is everything to him. It has everything to do with the type of people he hangs with. Get the people around him talking, and you got a fight. Unforunatly pacquiao is too nice to embarrass mayweather like that publicly. If he could borrow Ricardo Mayorga's personality for a while, this fight would be done in no time. With all that being said, I do think mayweather beats pacquiao with superior counter punching. But he sure does have a big ass ego, he actually said he was the GOAT. I don't think so buddy.
Floyd's confidence is a thin veil. 5 minutes listening to him speak and you can tell all his bravado is a cover for what is essentially a very weak personality underneath.
That reminds me of the mayweather/Hatton 24/7 when Hatton started talking **** after the Castillo fight and Mayweather jumped up and told Ellerbe to make the ****ing fight
Yup. Floyd Jr. was born and raised a boxer from a boxing family. The guy was on top for so long and undefeated. Boxing is essentially all he knows. It must kill him deep inside to be #2 to Pac, a foreigner who is even more adored by his own fellow Americans than he is.
He might tell this to the few gullible public who believe him but deep down when he goes to bed at night, he admits his fear to himself, fear of getting hit and hard. If Shane Mosley can rock his world what do you think the Pacman is going to do to him. Its been my experience and a lot of people here as well that the more **** that you talk the more fear that it shows inside.
What you said is a contradiction. He's number two to who? Ring Magazine? Unloyal, wishy washy, capricious fans who ride bandwagons? IMO Floyd doesn't think for one second he's not nor was/is not the best P4P fighter today or in his mind ever. Boxing is all he knows. Kinda like all Michael Jackson knew was to perform and sing. While we sit around and do other **** he was in the gym all day everyday. It may be annoying to hear or read some of the stuff that he may come across. Some of it may even be laughable to him, but I don't think he second guesses himself. You don't get to where he's at, or dedicate yourself to one thing and lose it over a facebook or an ESB or espn comment. What's stopping this fight from happening is Arum's greediness and his bad blood with Floyd and Oscar, the fact that Floyd and his camp TRULY BELIEVE that Pacquiao is on something, and Pacquiao's reluctance to prove that he's not. That's it. Point, blank period. You take 2 of these factors out of the equation and you got yourselves a fight. 6 time world champion (really 7 if you count Mosley) in 5 different weight classes. Boxing since the crib. Retired as P4P Champ. Professional since like what 19. I'm sure in his head he doesn't feel like he owes anybody **** and he's done enough and rightfully so. But most of you don't seem to get that. You think Floyd works for you or something and is here for YOUR entertainment. This guy is human like everyone else. What have you dedicated yourself to?
What exactly is the point you're trying to make in noting the difference in dedication between a professional athlete and a fan of said athlete's sport? Especially on a boxing forum it should be acceptable to be critical of an athlete without having someone pull the "yeah, well what have you done in life" card. Here's a shocker: most professional athletes dedicate themselves to their sport. Why does it make Floyd special? Does it put him above criticism from those of us not currently in the top 5 Pound for Pound? Another surprising fact: People who are NOT professional and/or elite athletes can, in fact, dedicate themselves to endeavors beyond the altruism of a paid performer that you seem to hold in such high esteem. These mysterious people are called: soldiers, doctors, firefighters, fathers, mill workers, farmers, counselors, attorneys, mothers, nurses, scholars, scientists, teachers, coaches, random ESB posters, etc, etc,. :good
yop...starched him right into a turnbuckle right in the middle of the "there is only one ricky hatton" chant.....classic!
:thumbsup yeah i'm with Leon when i say it's one of my favorite fights. I watched the fight with my friend and he asked me if they were fighting in Britain. Hatton had a huge crowd out and Floyd took him out in the hostile crowd
