Are all the fights on the same day? I know they are 3 rounds each, so after you 3 rounder you take on the next opponent in a tournament style competition? If not, how long inbetween fights?
Yeah, it all takes place in a few hours. You fight in the Quarter-Final. If you a) win and b) aren't injured, you fight in the Semi-Final in like 1-1.5 hours. Then again, if you win and aren't injured you go through to the Final within another hour. The most you wind up possibly doing is 9 rounds in 3 hours...so it's actually a lot less strenuous than most championship matches (12 rounds in an hour).
The last one (heavyweights V) was finished in just over two hours from the first bell to the final knockout. That one moved along quickly, more than normal. They usually last ~3 hours.
Then tough ****, you're out (if the physician doesn't clear you to keep fighting on). They have replacements on standby. Replacements have actually won the tournament a few times. :yep
Damn, i dont know what to think of that. Cuz if you fight an all out war in three rounds, after the adrenaline has passed and you feel the aches from the body attack and the headache, that can affect your performance. Thanks IB.
I would love to see more of this "one night tournament". Just think about how great the "Super Six" would of been if they all fought the same night!
With top fighters, it would never work. Even if they all agreed to the terms, the promoters wouldn't. There's a reason the participants in PF are all guys who are either at the end or beginning of their careers or otherwise on the outside looking in - guys with no clout and leverage who really need the tournament championship to put themselves even into fringe contending status (and would have almost no chance of doing so without it). There is substantial risk entering Prizefighter. You can be eliminated without ever losing (due to injury or fatigue). You can get knocked out by someone who's fresher if you've gone through a three-round war or two already - or at least get outhustled and lose on points. The guys who enter the tournament are aware of these risks and for them the rewards (attention & notoriety, and the championship itself FWIW) exceed it.
Six Spaz's punch each other in the face in a round-robin format over the course of one night. The winner gets a cheque for 32,000 British pounds.
