Yes, he can beat Cotto, but he has zero chance against Martinez, zero..........

Chavez is 6'0, Cotto is just 5'7. Chavez can beat Cotto but has very small chance with Marvilla.

Chavez Jr. certainly cant be confused for elite, but some of you guys are ignoring that Cotto got hit plenty by a well past it Mayorga.

.....and Cotto has to climb up another weight division.
Chavez Jr. will be outweighing Cotto by 15 to 20 lbs.

Cotto has seen his better days, and at 160 lbs, I go with young man Julio Cesar Chavez.

Cotto will destroy jr. Easy victory for miguel.....the way sebastian was landing at will at chavez with no problem, imagine if zbik would've had the punching power, jr would have been ko........................chavez gets hit to easy, also his face all red & bruises up.................................with miguel devastated strong jab he will soften up jr and then destroyed him..................easy target practice.

Looks like this fight is on sometime in early October. Arum is feeding Cotto to the wolves again. If Cotto loses (as a really small middleweight to a big middleweight), he builds up his future ticket-seller.

I didn't catch Juniors fight lastnyt but I'm reading contrasting reports from people who did...either way, from what I remember Jr doesn't fight to his height, so that shuldnt be a problem. What does concern me is what weights both guys will come in at? I'm pretty sure Cotto will be heavily outweighed but there's also no doubt who the more skilled one of the 2 is.

Either way, Cotto by UD for me!

chavez can take a punch because zbik makes paulie mallanagie look like ernie shavers. cotto's punches is a whole other story but i don't know how well cotto will carry 160 in that 5'7 frame. but cotto would still have too much skill, ring exp, and savy to lose to chavez.

Cotto will be ripping left hooks on him like a mother****er, and he hits a lot harder than Zbik. Anything's possible, but I can't see jr taking that kind of punishment for 12 rounds. He'll have to show more skills than he did this weekend.

I think Jr. will still lose to Cotto at this point I even consider Jr. vs Mayorga as a 50/50 fight

Exactly. He hits much harder and is MUCH more accurate than Zbik. Chavez Jr. might be able to use his size and strength better if he had efficient pressure-fighting footwork, but he doesn't. What Cotto presumably 'lost' in durability or aggression, he is gaining back in his confidence in boxing smart and implementing a strategy under Steward. Cotto's been through worse than anything sloppy Chavez Jr. can throw at him. It would be a fun fight because of styles, but it will take more than a few extra pounds to beat Cotto's timing with the jab and superior inside & body work.
