I've never seen Ward tagged properly, not flush...thats telling on its own I suppose but it will be interesting to see how SOG reacts when and if Froch gets to him, for all we know he might just fall apart.
start strong, outwork Ward early on to build up a lead. Then keep him on the end of the jab. When ward tries to get close throw combo's with plenty of uppercuts off the jab. Try t outwork Ward throughout & don't let Ward on the inside.
I reckon froch will have a great start, it may take a few rounds for ward to work him out that's when froch will have to change things up, froch needs to have plans a,b and c to confuse and beat ward, it could have the makings of a scrappy fight and froch will need to have his fingers crossed at the end and hope the judges are fair, it's definatly winnable as ward ain't amazing but he does seem to be better than froch in most areas except for power and reach length.
The last thing he wants to do is to start trying to drag Ward into a tear up. He's got to start on the outside and frustrate Ward to a degree, then switch tactics every couple of rounds. I think this is a fight for the purist, rather than the casual follower.
i think froch will put ward down, ok froch might take a lot of pepper pot shots from paper hands ward but froch can handle that.... when froch lands i think ward goes down he may well get up but froch will finish him off.
He's been dropped before, but I don't read too much into that. From memory - he got a bit over excited offensively and left himself open, then took a hook and another shot (uppercut?) and dropped. His powers of recuperation looked fine though.
Dirrell lacks heart but as a boxer he is exceptionally good and better than Ward IMO ... Ward will be dragged into the trenches by Froch and Wards remains will be left for the wolves to feed on ... :bbb
Make it ugly. He appears to be physically stronger and he has the harder punch, so oblige Ward if he wants to fight close. And that there is the problem. Ward has many ways of fighting, and Froch can't just bank on one style turning up.
I disagree, I think Froch does need to get Ward involved in a bit of a tear up as this is where he will win, Ward is more of a boxer and quick, so Froch needs to take a few on the way in but once in take it to him, Ward wont like it one bit and Froch will be too strong. I dont think there's anyone in the division that can stand toe to toe with Froch and come out better....some may say Kessler did but that could have gone either way.
ward will use the same tactics as dirrel but slightly more offensive, he will fight of the back foot and look to pot shot froch. with frochs reach advantage i can see ward using his height to stay away and keep it quiet, when he is allowed to pot shot and hold (mayweather vs hatton style) while occasionally getting in real close and trading (haye vs valuev style). what ward has got to avoid is trading at a distance where froch can get to him and he can't get to froch.
I think Froch is better on the outside. I'm not saying he's poor on the inside but he obviously struggles with body shots, which Ward can deliver, and if Froch ever looks like getting the better of him he'll just be tied up. Boxing on the outside is his best chance, he might not look all that pretty but it's a damn sight more judge friendly than when he chases people and is made to miss by feet rather than inches. I just don't think Ward will engage him too much, and McCracken will know that and instruct Carl accordingly. If he gets it wrong he'll lose a wide decision, if he gets it right there's no reason why he can't pull off the upset.
Froch has got his tactics right in the last couple of fights. I think McCracken is decent at cooking up a gameplan and probably does have something up his sleeve for Ward. I would imagine it involves neutralising Ward's inside game by making Carl use his reach and keep the fight on the outside. Also, keeping the fight at high intensity/speed will be good for Froch, as we haven't really seen Ward tested under pressure (unless you count Bika, where he looked ****)
Yeah it was a uppercut from outside of the eyeline. Ward was side on and Boone brought it under his left arm and landed it. His legs buckled and he fell back wards onto canvas. For rest of fight he did as much holding as he could to get through. This fight was at Middleweight and he looked weak at middle IMO.
