I have always been a boxing fan. The fight that made me passionate about boxing was Trinidad-Campas back in 94. I absolutely loved watching Tito throw his combinations with such precision. It was a beautiful thing to watch and something that I will never forget. It made me see how beautiful boxing could be.
I always liked boxing , when I was a kid , staying up late watching Tyson with the famly was a realtreat . But I think the fight would eventualy spark my major interest in the sport and would lead to my delving deep into boxing history , was Barrera vs. Hamed , that was it then , just everything about it . That was when the boxing history books started getting bought , then the videos , then the posters and the ring magazine and the framed photos . The performance of Barrera that night inspired me , and changed the pattern of my christmas and birthday presents forever ! ! If it wasnt for Tyson though, I might never have watched the Barerra fight
He was a champion , like Joe Louis , luvd for a reason - he brought every bit of passion he had for the sport into the ring , hard explaining what its like watching Tito
Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini was a local guy and his fights were always on. Most of his fights were action-packed, so noone particular got me hooked.
So you watched a fight in the 60s, then kept watching presumably until 1976, then watched on into the 80s and then finally decided you were a fan? :think :tong
A very good, heartfelt post. As a friendly, and, I hope, not too condescending note, it may have more impact if you format it a bit more clearly (using the "ENTER" key to paragraph.) As for me, the fights that really made me a fan were Chacon-Limon IV, and Gomez-Pintor. Both of those fights were fiery, back-and-forth wars, and, although I was into boxing prior to that point, those two fights really solidified my resolve to watch as much boxing as I could...just to replicate the feelings that I had when watching those two contests.
Growing up as a kid watching Mike Tyson fights late at night.Nothing else needs to be said.I remember being the only kid that defended Mike in class when he lost to Douglas.I was pissed as hell. And i was only 11.
As a kid my father brought me to MSG for Marciano vs Louis. As an adult I took my sons to the Garden for Ali-Frazier I (a very expensive night) The first one was very sad, the second was very exciting. No other event of ANY kind compares to those two nights for me.
Holyfield Tyson I. Trinidad-DLH, DLH-Vargas, and Pac-Marquez I. First ppv I ever bought and had family and friends was Tyson-McNeely. I remember the tape recording stopped right before the fight began. That's what you get for recording useless undercards. I really didn't keep up with boxing until a friend of mine invited me to go watch the Pacquiao-Marquez fight with Cotto as an undercard. I walked in for 50 dollars.
John Duddy-Luis Ramon Campas Saw the lineup on MSG, thought it looked interesting (young fighter takes on aging veteran) and gave it a shot. If anybody's seen the fight, you know it was a damn good one.
