Thats an understatement. Pavlik isn't half the pure boxer that Hagler was. And no im not kidding,,,,not even half. He has much better power than Hagler though
Yeah, but power against Hagler is pretty much a non-factor. And I do agree, Hagler was an amazing boxer in his prime, supremely underrated by those who think of him as a brawler given his late fights with Mugabi, Hearns, and Leonard. Some of the best counter-punching, accuracy, punch placement, and even movement I've seen.
ALL I'm saying, is IF Pavlik continues to develop and maybe wins at 68? I'd give him a shot at 2 out of 3 in our field of dreams! WHY? Height, reach, and TRUE KO POWER. Pavlik's jab was under rated bu some in his victory over Taylor. If he continues to improve? He's a force! A good long jab and heavy hands can go a long way. Again its IF's. Pavliks build/legs and chin will likely keep him IN THE FIGHT, longer than Hearns. Right now? Hagler has more dimensions and would get a KO in a sensational fight.
He will need to continue developing A LOT. As of now, the height and reach thing don't matter, as he is nowhere near the pure boxer a prime Hagler was, and the KO power never matters when you're matched up against Hagler.
Hagler was a great boxer/puncher with long arms and an iron chin. His reach was the same as Pavlik's: 75inches. Pavlik needs some more seasoning and experience before he can be compared.
Pavlik has the worst chin of any boxer *I* have seen. Haglar would kill him. It just can't be denied, Kelly Pavlik is the worst boxer o ever laced them up and on Feb16....his 15 minutes comes TO AN END!!!!!!!
Given Pavliks POWER the height and reach wouldnt be without impact. Glad to see you back and as I said up front, pick Hagler KO 9 or 10:good Yet, I like Pavlik and wont blindly write him off. I also stated its not really fair to make the comparison. When a guy just becoming Champ is matched with one of the best MW's ever done it? :huh Pavliks keeps working on his jab and timing and he's a threat. If he successfully wins the Taylor rematch? Either Abraham at 160 or a big name at 168.:good
Right now there is absolutely no way to not pick Hagler by devastating early KO. In 5 years, who knows?
Pavlik is a very good fighter no doubt, and I can tell you like him, but certain matchups are just about as bad as they come. Also, as pointed out by another poster, Hagler's reach is the same as Pavlik's. Thanks for the welcome back.:good
I cry Uncle when we're at the mercy of far too early and too much fantasy in speculation I'f we ever watch this? It'll boxing with THE STARS in the afterlife:rofl You're Welcome often enjoy the debates:hat
Actually i just cracked my first Just making THE point that its not a fair FANTASY comparison at this point:yep Apparently bombed the humor eh? I hope that if there is an after life? We can see these FANTASIES COME TRUE? :rofl Tell me there isnt a whole lot of fights/matchup we dont wanna C?
I have seen Hagler in his prime but I don't think Pavlik has reached his yet so I can't really make a decision. From what I've seen so far, Hagler wins.
