Would you be in favour of another 168lbs Super Six tournament?

Assuming directly after this tournament ends, Showtime were considering running another Super Six tournament with Ward, Froch, Kessler, Bute, Pavlik and Johnson, would it be something you'd be in favour of? Has the length of the current tournament put you off or would the allure of these six all facing each other be enough to win you over?

It would need to be an automatic elimination format with 8 guys, such as quarter finals, the semis and then the final...all done within 1 year or 3 fight nights within the year.

Truth is, most of these guys are moving up to Light Heavyweight in 12-18 months tops, so it should be done at 175lbs instead of at 168lbs.

    Hopkins - Dawson - Pascal - Cloud - Ward - Froch - Bute - Dirrell

to get them fighting yes. But it has to move faster somehow. Its a great concept but I don't really think it fits the modern fighter. If these guys would fight 4 times a year then it would work well.

Some good fights came out of it though so I don't think we can really ***** can we?

I think one of the problems with modern boxing is that when a guy loses, he's cast out of the picture like he's no longer relevant. Look at Williams. A bad loss, yes, but he's proved he's an elite level fighter yet he's been discounted by many fans. That's what is great about the Super 6 format because once these guys lose, they are given another chance. I don't think any of those six fighters I mentioned could make it through another tournament without a loss and they'd all be fighting each other. That is fantastic for boxing.

Maybe they could have a three fight PPV instead? I'd love to see that. It'd certainly speed things up.

I guess I'd be up for it if all names listed in your post commit to it.

With injuries and politics it just seems like tournaments like this never work out. As long as Bute-Kessler fight and the winner fights the Froch/Ward winner then it's probably not needed. Bute, Ward and Froch also have lucrative options at 175.

yeah that would be great, one great card would be great for boxing.

Glen Johnson is a nice fill in but I wonder if the Allen Green thing was a favor. To bad Bute was tied up elsewhere, he needed to be in the tourney.

I would think Showtime thought about a big card with a PPV but were affraid that it wouldn't sell. All the fighters are name guys to boxing fans but none of them are names outside. Who knows though, I like that idea, do a couple of those through the Group stage to move things along.

    Not really

Pavlik was struggling against ummm whats his name?
Bute has a guarenteed shot vs Ward/Froch
Froch is fighting Kessler anyway after the tourny
Johnson will likely fight the other 168 llbers or move to 175 again

Basically we need the tournament in a new division first to allow 168 to replenish itself and allow new stars to come through like Degale/Groves etc.

I thought they were going to do a cruiserweight super six next anyways?

Only if it's knockout. Round robin is crap, with pullouts, replacements. 8 man knockout would be nice

I said no - not with the names u mentioned. I agree with the other poster. Give the weight div. time to replenish it's talent pool. Pavlik also not earned the right either I think.

No, not with those names, or the current format.. There's been some great ideas, espcially creating one with boxers like PDub. and a straight knockout tourney.. Allow all the bull**** politics and favouritism.

I love that they did this, no matter what bad spots may have been in it, but to me only Bute would be of interest here as an addition that hasn't been sorted out and that one fight (with the winner and/ or runner-up) need not have another massive undertaking like this. The winner certainly isn't going to need it. I would, however, love to see a super six in another weight class, complete with fight camp 360's to accompany. It's great stuff, but not again for the same weight class. A super welterweight/light middleweight SS or (Klozoff will like this) a super flyweight SS, etc.

    i'd rather see a tourney at 118, 147, 154, 126, 175, 140, or 135

not that i'd be opposed to another in the same division but it just seems unlikely
