I remember thinking about this fight a few months ago, think it was during the peterson fight, something just made me think the same thing, its a long shot but i will not be surprised in the slightest if it dos happen.

He is not overrated. Floyd is a great boxer but he lacks the will to increase his legacy though.

Ortiz will get frustrated as he won't be landing on Floyd but taking counters all night. This could cause him to quit. I think we'll see the Victor that "doesn't deserve to get beat up" again.

If Mayweather comes into the ring in the same form he came in in his last 2 fights he will dominate Ortiz.

Ortiz best bet is to hope inactivity or age or both catch up to Floyd (which could happen) & anyone predicting Ortiz will win must only be doing so on that hope because if the expected best versions of each men show up, Mayweather as usual will be a class apart from his opponent.

With the heart that Ortiz showed in taking Berto's bombs, I wouldn't really bring up the heart arguement with him anymore.. He's obviously matured. I hate to sound like an Ortiz fan because I'm still a little skeptical of him, but I think its pretty safe to say that he will definitely show up for this fight. (Lamont showed us that Ortiz is not at all that great of a boxer, though to Victor's defense he may have underestimated his opponent)

I saw moments in the fight where Berto would work his jab on Victor and turn it into a boxing match where he seemed to get the better of it, however Ortiz was very determined and would not allow himself to be dominated for long.. Mayweather is also a defensive minded fighter where Berto is not.. Well see what happens fight night, but either fighter can use their opponents style to their advantage

I always felt Ortiz and Berto would be an exciting match up based on their offensive styles and shaky chins. Ortiz proved to be a solid welter to me that night, at the very least. For me with Mayweather and Ortiz, the excitement in the fight also lies in the styles.. It doesn't promise to be a fight filled with fireworks, but there is definitely intrigue in the match up, Ortiz being himself having a pretty potent offense behind an aggressive and engaging style while Mayweather, a defensive wizard to say the least.

Anybody can win, depends on this.. depends on that.. Good match up, IMO

Ortiz can get frustrated easily and loses heart just as easily. Just like in the Maidana fight he couldn't finish him off and lost the fight by taking his eye off the game. Similarly against Lamont Peterson he had him in trouble but after realising he couldn't finish him off, Peterson forced a draw that he barely deserved.

I can see Victor being frustrated against Mayweather as I seriously doubt Floyd will let him land anything meaningful, then being stopped later in the fight. We've also got to remember he's only had one fight at WW.

  11. Sensible post. Thank you

  12. Then how do you explain him coming off the canvas twice to kick Berto's ass? Just luck, right?

I think you may be right. At least, I HOPE you are! Ortiz would be a freakin fool not to let his hands go like never before.

Your gonna see PBF doing alot of bending lower than his waist line to get away from the carnage in this one.

GO ORTIZ! Please, bury this guy for once.

I love this fight and Mayweather is taking a $100,000,000 gamble with this one. If we can remove the nuthuggers from the equation for a moment, unbiased observers understand that Ortiz has tremendous fighting skills and he's getting better.

Clearly Mayweather has the ability to teach him a thing or two still. However, Ortiz's chances are quite good in my estimation because he's going to have a number of important physical advantages except reach: youth, height, power, strength, southpaw stance. Mayweather has never fought anyone, as far as I can tell, who's had all of these distinct advantages and, moreover, he's made his career of being the guy going into the fight with the most physical advantages.

Having these advantages won't guarantee victory for Ortiz (or anyone for that matter) But they're significant and worth noting.

Mayweather's intangible advantages--brains, experience, confidence, and 'cool under fire' psychology--are as important as Ortiz's physical advantages. But I would venture to say that we've been acclimated to appreciate them more because he's enjoyed physical advantages over his previous opponents. It's akin to watching a master craftsman perform his art without a deadline hanging over his head. In other words, the physical advantages he's enjoyed against his previous opponents has allowed him the luxury of showcasing his 'artistry' precisely because he isn't under any pressure physically.

Now, the difference maker in this fight, in my opinion, will be how Mayweather's vaunted defense will cope with everything that Ortiz brings. That defense was not crafted for southpaws, hence a resume lightly sprinkled with them. The 'shoulder-roll' clearly is not as effective against southpaws and much has been made about it ad nauseum. However, I don't see it being much of a talking point in this fight simply because I believe that Mayweather is going to stake out the middle of the ring and do a lot more holding than we're used to. If his last three fights are any indication, he's obviously not the same fighter who's impeccable footwork was as impressive as any of his other fighting skills. Mayweather has evolved as he's grown long in the tooth, relying more and more on development of upper body strength that allows him to stay closer for longer. I anticipate a sophisticated 'phone-booth' battle.

I believe that Mayweather will be tested by Ortiz unlike any other fighter before. As I said before, Ortiz's physical advantages are uncharted waters for Mayweather. It's a huge gamble for him and Ortiz is in the enviable position of knowing that all of the pressure is on May come September.
