You are not looking through a U.S perspective you are only looking for U.S fighters. Of course Cotto is a bigger name in the U.S he does over 300,000 ppv buys in the U.S on a consistent basis. JML does atleast 200,000 as well. Ortiz gets no limelight in the media whatsoever (which is expected to change when the promotion of the fight begins), Khan, Gamboa and Lopez were featured on HBO more times than Ortiz was and you expect Ortiz to be a bigger name than the others cause hes American? Not at all, I am looking at it through a U.S. perspective. After Ortiz beat Berto, he was all over ESPN for those a couple of days doing interviews on various shows. Ortiz' fight with Berto garnered 1.5 million viewers. Gamboa, JuanMa, and Khan have yet to have a fight do those kind of numbers.
Well, after a vacation Floyd did 1.05M against Marquez. Question is, how does Ortiz' popularity compare against Marquez at that time?
1-1.3 option. This fight is easy to sell. Victor Ortiz- Young lion trying to become the next superstar by beating Floyd. Mexican American and the day after Mexican independence day. Also he just came off a fight of the year performance. Has talent along with power. Floyd Mayweather- Returning to the ring after a long lay off. Will he be the same? Can the young lion take his 0. Fight might lead to the fight of the century. Also 24/7 will appeal to the casual fans. This fight will easily do over a million. Everyone I know is paying for it.
Economy is weak right now. People want to see Floyd fight Manny and vice versa. With Floyd it is all about the opponent. He peaked with ODLH and has never come with in a million of that fight. This fight won't break 1 million. people are hip to the game. Floyd is not even ranked P4P. Manny went from 60 minutes to mainstream media and even on CBS promoting his bout. The market is slower now and MMA fans who were curious about Pacquiao won't buy this fight. There is no angle except if it is Floyd vs Manny. You will see this will be a bust.

Don't be stupid. Free Viewer's are not the same as PPV buys. You put any title fight with two good punchers on for free and you're going to get those kind of viewers. With the economy the way it is no one wants to pay $55 for a PPV so if you price it that way, you're going to end up with a large portion of the viewers going to on stream for the live and re-watching the a clearer version in a few hours later. Promoters still don't have a handle on new media delivery for fights. 12 rounders used to be too long for podcast but now with the ipad and net-flicks type of delivery they can easily make personal fights more affordable. Expect this fight to do as well and Mayweather/Marquez but no where near Mayweather/Mosley. That is the closest gage you're going to have. Another factor is GBP undercard. Who will they be able to put up from the Latino base that can bring in more PPV's over the holiday weekend. It doesn't look real good from the stand point of their stable.
