Rumsfield said tarver was p4p that is why i said that. Also if you look into the circumstances: Winky was never a 170 lb fighter in a million years.

Well, if i'm not mistaken, he was listed on the P4P lists before his loss to Hopkins. I mean when you beat a legend and start cleaning out the LHW division, people tend put you on the P4P lists.

He was not p4p material is what I was saying. It is like saying Winky is p4p now because he is on a very respected list: The Ring's. When he quite clearly is not.

See, now you are using your subjective opinions to argue facts. And the FACT is that at the time BEFORE Tarver lost to Hopkins, he was on most P4P lists because he had just beat RJJ and Glen Johnson. In hindsight, it's easy to say that he isn't a P4P fighter right now. Anyone can do that. But let's stick with facts. Before his fight with Hopkins, he was on most P4P lists.

Yes. After he took the rematch with Jones, split with Johnson, and then huimiliated Jones in the rubber match, I'm fairly certain Tarver was universally recognized, rightly or not, amongst the top ten P4P in the sport.

And the thing is, a lot of people thought Tarver won both fights against Johnson. It was a SD when he lost but he dominated Johnson in the rematch.

I mean what these people are doing is easy for anyone to do. Look at where a fighter is now and say, "He wasn't P4P material". It doesn't work that way. Sometimes, people are on the P4P list because of who they beat and not necessarily their talent level. Tarver had accomplished a ton before fighting Hopkins. He beat RJJ for Christ sakes. And he was impressive in his two fights with Johnson, who by the way, was another guy who destroyed RJJ.

We're on the same wave length here.

As another example, after Golota twice battered Riddick Bowe, he was considered an elite heavyweight and going into his bout with Lennox Lewis, many odds-makers had it as a pick'em fight.

Lewis's utter destruction of Golota was one of his most impressive victories, if not THE most impressive on his entire ledger.

It's easy to look back and say "Golota was nothing" due to subsequent failures he had after the fact. But that presupposes that Lewis had nothing to do with his demise, and overall, it undermines this sensational victory.

CONTEXT is everything, and I think that's one of the most overlooked aspects by many fans on this message board.

In any case, I maintain my belief that Hopkins will beat Calzaghe, and I am utterly baffled by the number of people who are writing him off. It's one thing to state you think Calzaghe will beat Hopkins, but all too many consider it a foregone conclusion, and worse yet, many of these people fancy Calzaghe will win with inexplicable ease.

I'm hard-pressed to imagine a scenario wherein ANYONE south of cruiser had what it takes to dominate an elite and proven talent like Hops.

I won't say that. If Calzaghe does win, I will give him due credit. Hopkins may be 43, but he's not going to get old overnight. He's just one of those fighters, like a modern day Archie Moore.

If Calzaghe wins, he deserves MAJOR PROPS!!

However, I'm left wondering....how will Calzaghe's advanced age figure into this? At 36, he's no spring chicken, either, and I suspect his style is more suceptible to "aging overnight" than is Hopkins at this juncture.

We are on the same page.

It's so important to see the circumstances leading up to a particular fight. What was the public perception? Who did the experts think would win? What were the odds?

If joe wins is should bump B-hop and JMM down and have Joe in p4p #2 but i can never see him replacing PBF.

What would you think of Hopkins if he beat Joe? You probably are certain that Cal will beat him up good, so if Hopkins wins, will you think that you must have overrated him, or maybe Calz was just not that good in the first place?
