If you trust your own bias you'd decided to score it to DeGale before the fight even started. To have DeGale winning that fight is just ridiculous. He was bamboozled throughout and barely landed when he threw his pitty-pat arm shots. The only damage he did was with the head. Fact. The best DeGale could have got was a draw. And he didn't deserve that. Second, it was obvious as early as his third fight that he needed a new trainer. His jab, footwork and punch selection are appalling. He likes to admire his work too much and he has no ring IQ at all. He could win amateur because his fast hands allowed him to peck his way to a win, but that's not the pro game. Frank may get him one now, but I think DeGale's so arrogant that he'll struggle to let anyone be the boss. And considering that a simple jab-step like what Groves use was so insurmountable, I'd say his limitations are clear. And dude, I feel free to laugh at your silly opinion now.
A comparison...:think I ran a thread sometime ago on here called Prime Steak v Corned Beef, to compare Degale and Groves to Benn and Eubank is exactly that, Degale and Groves don't even get near them...:yep
:deal The trashtalk was atrocious and childish compared to Benn and Eubanks beef which was funny yet enthralling. The sheer hatred Benn had for Eubank and the way Chris somehow played this calm and withdrawn man made for one of most unique feuds in boxing.
:yep [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO-jsOiJfxs[/ame] Some cracking lines in there. "Lets have some parliamentary procedure here, alright?"
Its so early in groves's career you just cant tell how far he will come on. You really cant compare. Although a big benn fan, groves is far more professional outside of the ring, and see him actually having a longer career than benn. Will it be as successful? Only time will tell, hope so.
Degale has a lot to deliver now, he needs to get out of England, ditch the backslappers and knuckle down to business and serve it up...:deal Eubank was right, when they turnover as millionaires it takes away that raw hunger that is in every other fighter that has to put his foot on every rung on the ladder...:yep At the moment he is all gong and no dinner...
"It's hard to get out of bed to go for a run at 5 o'clock in the morning when you're wearing silk pyjamas." :deal Hard, not impossible Gaz.
Yeah, I don't understand boxing. Great response. When has DeGale showed any ring IQ? Amateur fights were short distance, he could flash, pot-shot and flurry to win. He couldn't make a simple adjustment to Groves stepping back and to the side. Pathetic, really.
Personally I don't think Groves or DeGale are in Benn's, Eubank's or Watson's class, certainly not yet. But I can't remember how good those guys were after 10-12 fights, so it's hard to compare. I doubt they'll reach those heights though and I reckon all three would beat Groves and DeGale. So might Slugger O'Toole...
