I highly doubt Kessler is too worried about fighting Bute. Kessler has fought so many good fighters and been willing to travel to make the fights happen. Kessler has been out with a serious injury for a while and Bute is a dangerous fight no doubt, so it makes sense for Kessler to win a world title again, then he has something to bargain with. The thing that seems to be forgotten about Kessler is that he never lost his 2nd WBC title, Kessler selflessly relinquished it for the S6. So Kessler is still really the true WBC champ
As long as they fight eventually I don't care. I've already said I think Kessler needs another tune-up.
Mogens Palle did make a huge counter offer in the Calzaghe negotiations, but back then, Calzaghe/****** didn't want to fight Kessler in the first place. I am sure Bute wants to fight Kessler, but only in Canada........
"Bute is still an option" But after they said that they talked about applying to WBO for a mandatory. Well , we have to wait and see. My thoughts are that they either don't want it right now, because they mentioned that Stieglitz didn't defend his title(mandatory) over a year and the fight should happen as soon as possible(WBO fist; IBF unification after) either they just don't want it at all ( WBO, S6 winner) or the money just isn't there for one or another to travel and fight in the rival's hometown.
If Kessler is not interested right now & Ward & Froch are unavailable how about Bute v G Johnson or A Dirrell?
Kessler isnt really the fact here.. Kessler just wants the best.. In a interview, Kessler sayd that he is not in charge of his future fights. He leaves that determination to Sauerland. If it where up to Kessler him self, he would be fighting Bute in Canada right now
Kessler and Bute , both want to be on top so they know they will have to fight the best , i don't think at this level that fighters are afraid of each other. Boxing is now a buisness and theres a lot of money invloved so Boxers doesn't have much to say. It's just a promoter fight at this point!
Showtime gives 500 000$ per fight for each fighter. The rest comes from the gate and TV rights. He would have the European TV rights if he fights Bute so you have to add that before saying it's not a good offer. Anyway, nobody knows the numbers and like I said before, Sauerland had taken the WBO way before receiving the offer. About Bute's defenses, you are wrong about many of his opponents status. Joppy was an easy one. Zuniga was not beaten easily by Inkin. He took the fight 2 weeks in advance and still gave a lot of difficulty to Inkin. He was Showtime's choice. Zuniga recently gave problems to Tavoris Cloud. Brinkley was top 10, Magee top 10-15, like Miranda. When 9 fighter are tied in a tournament, fighting someone near the top 10 is logically the best you can do. It's time now to face some top tier opponents. He wants them for a long time but Kessler's team may not want Bute. Don't say Interbox doesn't want the fight: it's not true. If Bute is so weak, if he only beat bums like everyone say, why not take his title? The fact is Bute's opponents see him fight and know he's dangerous for anyone in the division.
Froch would like to face Kessler first if he wins the tournament to avenge his loss. Ward would probably prefer to face Bute because he already beat Kessler convincingly. It's true that no one knows, but one thing is sure: the winner of a Bute-Kessler fight would get the shot at the super 6 winner. That would be sure.
