A good example of Marvin taking that kind of power is the uppercut John Mugabi lands on him in their fight. Mugabi was a big hitter too and that punch caught Hagler blind.

Hagler would taken Jacksons best punch like Mccallum did and annihilated him. Jackson was a killer, and he fight some tough guys-good resume. It seems that when I think of him nowadays, I can't get him screaming from the body shot McClellan landed in their rematch out of my mind. True puncher no doubt, and a gentleman/killer.

    Hagler/McCallum! That's a dream fight. But that's another thread.

Regardless of all this overrating of Mike McCallum now the fact is he never fought the elite level. He fought Curry when Donald just had a loss against Honeyghan. He lost to Kalambay. I think Marvin was a level above Mike and would have stopped him late or UD.

I agree with artberry,Jackson had a great combo of speed, timing, accuracy and leverage. But i think a guy like Mugabi had more raw power.

No way dude. Mugabi's power was ferocious. But it was that clubbing brute force power. Jackson's was like a lightening bolt. His opponents literally froze in their tracks. Iv never seen that before on a consistent basis from ANY fighter.
That's not a normal kind of power. Jackson had the kind of power only gods and angels are supposed to have. He was literally like the Samson of boxing.

Jackson was not your average or normal fighter. That power.... Woah. Simply woah. I wouldn't even bet money that LaMotta or Hagler would be able to take that. I'm serious. No chin is unbreakable, nobody is unknockoutable. We're talking about Julian ****ing Jackson.

If anybody will KO LaMotta or Hagler, it's got to be Julian "The Hawk" Jackson.

    Great post.:thumbsup
Mugabi wasn't far behind though in terms of power. You wouldn't like a dig off either.

Mccallum can never be overrated. He also beat kalambay. So what he fought curry after honeyghan. Curry came up in weight and got stopped cold. If there was ever a fighter you couldn't blame for not getting a big fight it was mccallum son. I think Hagler beats mike, but he wouldn't stop him.

Yeah no way is McCallum overrated. Avoided more like, or just unlucky.
The fantastic four could well have been a five piece.

I still think Mugabi was tops in terms of raw power. He didnt even have to hit you clean and he hurt you badly. when he landed clean It was lights out. It was only the fact that hagler has the best chin in 160 history that stopped Mugabi from being a champion that night. Hagler said years later that when Mugabi hit him with that uppercut he didnt know where he was for a while. I dont think any other fighter did that to hagler.
The punch that Mugabi flattened Carlos Fonseca with was the most fierce shot ive ever seen from a lower weight fighter. (also fonseca was a super middle/lt heavy.)
I think jackson was a guy that really looked for the perfect leverage in his punches and loaded up to finish it with one bomb. This made him pictaresque when it came off. Mugabi just wanted to kill you with any punch he cared to throw, and he hit you with a couple while you were going down, just to make sure of the job.

Hardest P4P puncher of all time. One shot KO power. I loved his fights with Terry Norris and Gerald McClennan.
