What HW champ has ever got casual US fans interested by going on talk shows? You have got to be kidding me.

If Haye won he'd have two chances to get US fans interested:

    1. Fight an American fighter (or one that is based in the US, like Adamek)
    2. Fight in the US

Neither is on the horizon should Haye win over Wlad and Vitali wins over Adamek. Vitali - Haye would not land in the US simply it would make much more money if staged in the UK/Europe (thanks to the time zone).

Mike Tyson is the obvious answer. Muhammad Ali too. Any mainstream appearances are rare and should be capitalized upon. After Tyson made mainstream appearances, he destroyed the likes of Berbick, Spinks and Holmes in dominating fashion. When Ali got mainstream appearances, he dominated and put on good fights against Liston, Frazier and Foreman. When Wlad got them, he put on such on awful performance, it resulted in fans booing, leaving early and because it was such a dud, HBO wanted nothing to do with the heavyweights and New York dropped boxing entirely for a while.

Think about that. The 'mecca of boxing' held such an awful fight that the entire city turned away from boxing. Think about how many great fans were lost that night.

And then people wonder why HBO may want Wlad to lose. Haye is guaranteed to sell tickets in America. Wlad, despite being a nice guy, has only proven to be a huge flop in America.
Well, Haye fighting in America is a possibility because British fans, unlike Germans, Ukrainians or whatever, will travel. Haye doesn't have the same popularity as Hatton, no, but look at how many of his fans went to watch him in Vegas. Haye's popularity is similar to Calzaghe's and he got many fans travelling to see him in America.

The only issue, is whether there's a valid opponent for Haye if he beats Wlad apart from the winner of Vitali/Adamek. We know Adamek will fight anyone, anywhere but would Vitali? I don't know. Aside from them two, there's nobody who

If Haye beats Wlad, would he retire in October? Haye has a puncher's chance, at least, so it could happen.

Wouldn't he have to, I mean HAVE TO, give Wlad a rematch if he knocked him out? That fight would certainly create some interest not only in the US, but around the world, I would think! It would certainly raise my estimation of Haye if he did KO Wlad, and I would certainly want to see the rematch to see if my guy could win the titles back.

I don't think it would really do much to revive interest in the division here in the U.S. It means a big deal to all of us who post on here because we are all hardcore boxing fans, hell that's why we all sit here and talk **** to each other about who's going to win and why. I remember when Wladimir Klitschko was coming up through the ranks smashing on everyone, HBO was trying to build interest in him by playing him up like he was Ivan Drago. I remember being in school people talking about this Drago type fighter knocking everyone out, but nobody even remembered what his real name was. I think for the casual US fight fan to get interested again it's going to take an American fighter who is known for a fast and aggressive style to take the title like Tyson did.

Haye still hasn't sold his 7,000 tickets in Hamburg (which is a +/- 75 minute flight from London) in the biggest HW fight in 10 years. And you're saying thousands of Brits would happily travel to Vegas to see Haye fight some unknown American?

To be fair, British people don't really want to go to Germany. When British fans go to Vegas, they are there to enjoy Vegas as well as see a fight. There isn't any real appeal to going to Hamburg. Most fans who are going are staying for a day or two for that reason.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl
So Haye fans aren't really boxing fans, or even fans period? Is that what you're saying? That the fans will go not for the boxing match but because there's plenty of neon and casinos around?

I suppose if Hatton had boxed in Hamburg you're suggesting that his fans wouldn't have bothered to go, because British people "don't really want to go to Germany". :patsch:patsch:patsch

I'm guessing you've not ever been to Hamburg either. Shame on you, it's a lovely city.
