I know a guy who hit harder than every one mentioned so far, he only had one significant win at Sm (vs Charles Brewer).. But for one punche Antwun Echols hit harder than every one mentioned... Except for maybe Mccellan but G-Man had only one fight there so dont know if he should count.. He was real dangerous at MW and gave prime Hopkins 2 tough fights.. I asked B-Hop at the WBHOF banquet back in 01 or 02.. Who hit harder Echols or Tito... B-Hop chuckled and said Tito dont have nothing on Echols.. And said no one hits harder than him or has ever hit him harder... And im not just taking B-Hops opinion alone... Echols had Julian Jackson type power and could turn the fight around with one solid punch.. His time at the top was short,,, But he is one of the hardest punchers ive ever seen.. Im sure Charles Brewer and a few others would agree too.
Bollocks, Echols was never a puncher. He landed some good stiff shots on Mundine who didn't go down, Mundine got KO'ed by pillow fists Ottke. His power is rated by a couple of fighters but talked down by others. Personally I think Calzaghe in his youth had an edge over most of the guys mentioned, with the exception of Eubank and Jones Jr.
Never said it did, was simply debunking the myth that Reid was not a top class world rated opponent who was capable of giving the best at super middle during his era a tough fight. Just because you are not elite doesn't mean you are not world rated.
This question is difficult to answer due to the relative infancy of the SMW division, and the fact that a lot of fights at the weight involve guys coming up or down from other weight categories. There hasn't really been any stand out punchers that fought a lot of bouts at this weight. G-Man has to be up there in terms of anybody who has ever fought at SMW though.
Just saw Don Lee fought at super-middle. I would say Don Lee was the hardest-hitting fighter to be rated at that weight. That guy was being regarded as one of the lb4lb hardest hitters of the mid-80s, he could really ****ing hit
No offense man but that is a reason as to why many people dislike the forums section of this site. You needlessly assaulted a group of people without reasonable cause, seemingly in search of drama and confrontation. These kind of actions typically breed from boredom. In my honest opinion you should see if obtaining a new hobby is not a too far gone action. Sorry for the breakdown but open your eyes step back and take a look.
Yeah i forgot about Dean Francis, he could wallop. Henry Wharton i mentioned, top power in his left hook, he just lacked the skill to land it on the best. His chin was quality too.
Bull****.. although i know punching power is usually the last to go.. His timing was off as he got older...Most of the guys that beat him after would have gotten Iced in Echols prime. I dont thimk you ever even watched Echols in his prime.. He was known as a huge puncher even in the amatuers.. Knocking dudes out cold with Headgear on.... I think ill take my own eyes and Hopkins opinion over yours... Raul Marquez is another guy who said Echols was the hardest puncher he fought(they fought in the trials) Calzaghe actually had above average power in his prime.. Eubank had heavy strong punches but wasnt a knockout type guy.
Bob Fitzimmons Tommy Burns Sam Langford All of whom KO'd legit heavyweights at the turn of the last century while fighting at 168 or less.
