Hmmm... off the top of my head I rate... Morales Barerra Marquez De La Hoya Vasquez R.Marquez Castillo Margarito
1. Erik Morales 2. Marco Antonio Barrera 3. Juan Manuel Marquez 4. Rafael Marquez 5. Israel Vazquez 6. Jorge Arce 7. Fernando Montiel 8. Humberto Soto 9. Antonio Margarito 10. Jose Luis Castillo 1 - 3 are interchangable, as are 4 - 5, as are 6 - 7, as are 8 - 10. Finito Lopez and Miguel Angel Gonzalez probably just weren't good enough in the last decade to make the list. Guys like Lazcano, Segura, J. Gonzalez, Sosa, Campas, R. Castillo, PDL and Aguirre were close.
There were alot of excellent or great Z(R LOpez)fighters that just missed the cut... SOme fough in the 2000s but either reitired early in the decade or had seen better days. Found it hard to rank guys like Mares,Segura as the book hasnt been written on them, i actually think Mares is a better fighter than a guy like Arce... BUt Arce has a damn good resume and more proven over the years... 1.Marco A Barrera 2.Erik Morales 3.Juan M Marquez 4.Rafeal Marquez 5,Izzy vasquez 6.Jose L Castillio 7.Fernando Montiel 8,Antonio Margarito 9.Jorge Arce 10.Martin Castillo Others top 20. Giovanni Segura,Orlando Salido,Abner Mares,Jesus Chavez,Humberto Soto,Manuel Medina,Christian Mijares,Oscar Larios,Johnny Gonzalez,Hugo Cazares,Daniel Ponce Deleon After Margarito this list got real touhg and not much seperating alot of these guys.. It was hard because some guys like Mares, castillio were very talented but there resumes not as good as other guys who IMO were less talented.. Arce was a huge puncher and excitin warrior in his prime,, And still is good but, i could think of quite a few below him that were better fighters... I was gonna put Segura , great puncher and has 2 wins over probable HOF Ivan Calderon.. . Even though i have him 10 on pfp list.. I do see some flaws , we will see.. Martin Castillio is very underrated, his prime was before he even got a title shot .. Had a few good wins and title defenses but aged soon after... If he hadnt not been locked out of a title shot for so long.. I thnk he would have proven to be one of the elite little guys of his era. Manuel Medina best days were in the 90s but he had some big wins and won titles in the 2000s too.. Also deserved the win over a faded but still world class Johny Tapia. Jesus Chavez was underrated.. He was really good before and around the time he fought Floyd.. Orlando Salido has always been underrated because of his record,, but look at his wins, hes beaten some damn good fighters.. And in the last 8oir 9 years has only loss to elite guys like Marquez,Gamboa...Avenged loss to Cruz... He is past his prime and has slowed down but is still at least a top 3 fw and coming off a huge win.. I still dont think he gets his due, he might not look smooth (he use to have decent speed) but hes verystrorg,Hits hard,Tough Chin, and relentless... Some tend to thik That Lopez was never that good, but i disagree i called the upset and also told everyone hed give Gamboa trouble.. Humberto Soto didnt make my list ... I think hes a good fighter and was even better at FW and JL.. But his resume is fluffed up,,, An interin title win over ROcky Juarez, Vacant title over Lorenzo, vacant win over tough and solid but limited David Diaz.. Dont really do it for me... If a prime Jesus Chavez had fought Soto comp his resume would look thick too.. And hed beat any version of Soto. Other guys today I thought of putting MIguel Vasquez in but not quite yet... Canelo,Angulo were close but need more wins. You could make a case for Aguirre,Ullises Solis,Edgar Sosa,Jorge Lacierva too. or maybe even Mexico 1st LH champ Julio Gonzalez.
You have Castillio to low i wanted to rate him over Izzy but couldnt.. Since he was pretty much Rafas equal.. WHo is better than Castillio. How did you come up with Soto over Castilllio? I cant picture Soto beating Stevie johnston 2x,Corrales,Casamayor,ARguably beating Mayweather., i even think he loses to some of the other contenders, former champs that Castillio beat.. THats not even close.
MAB and EM will always be interchangable, dependent on the raters taste. Personally I think that a few of you have Castillo too low, I'd have him in at 5 behind Rafa Marquez. Technically, isn't Margarito a Mexican-American?
I cant speak for anarci but I would also put barerra above morales purely because i think he was a more skilled boxer. Morales, Barerra and Marquez where all warriors but Morales was the least talented in my opinion (thats not to say he wasnt great you understand)
Morales is only slightly below Barrera in my book but as close as two fighters can get..THere resumes are on par and similar... BUt Barrera has the slight edge in their triology i felt he got the upperhand.... I also think he was more talented, and more well rounded... Morales was about his equal, but it wasnt cuz he was as talented. Barrera faster, beter combos, beter defense when he wanted, better boxing skills, Equal Chin and equal power..... Barrera had warrior heart and mentaly strong, but maybe thats where Morales closes the gap.. I also think Marquez is right on their ass.. In their primes i think Marquez might edge Morales by decision, but Morales has the better resume early on in his carrer... Marquez has gained ground in recent years, but was kind of in the back seat. While Barrera-Morales were building there legacy. I think he was just as good even back then but he didnt prove it or get any big fights.
