Dan Rafael is saying that Arreola is taking on Ahunanya on the Williams-Lara undercard. Ahunanya was once a solid spoiler but now he seems done. Arreola might get some rounds in here and if it helps to keep his weight down thats good as well, but I've seen enough of Arreola's run through all the gatekeepers he can find. After this he needs to face another top 10 guy or atleast get into an eliminator bout.
Is this steady diet of tomato cans going to help Arreola? He should be aiming to KO Friday if he wants to make any kind of statement in this fight
I think in his case it might... He needs to stay busy, to stay in reasonable shape. If he doesn't fight enough, he probably blows up to massive proportions again.
He's staying busy. Can't fault him for that, even if the opponents are ****. I really don't know when he's going to get another title shot though. Thompson will get a shot at the winner of Wlad/Haye before he does, and he won't be fighting Vitali again. Chris is doing the right thing and staying busy.
I like Arreola's new pace, Don't blame him for the comp tho.... outside 4 or 5 fighters the HW division is DEAD.
I def. give Arreola credit for fighting often but seriously, Friday? When was Friday's last fight & against whom? Chris needs to be fighting Dimitrenko, Chambers, Thompson, Fury, Povetkin, etc. to prove he's worthy of another title shot.
If Arreola is working on a big fight by the end of the year and wants to keep fighting guys like Ahunanya between now and then to help keep his weight down then thats fine, I have no problem with that, its probably a good plan. I just don't want to see Arreola spend the next year or so beating up on these kind of guys. Arreola is one of the more exciting heavyweights out there and one of the few who can get an HBO date. He's in his prime and him keeping his weight down is most likely a temporary thing. In 2-3 years his weight will be back up and, due to his style, he could be past his best. I want to see him fight other good fighters while he's at his best and his weight is down. I'd rather see him fight one good fighter after another even if he loses some instead of this current crop. I think the whole getting his weight in check and staying active against C-level fighters was a good strategy. People are interested in him again and he should be at his optimal fighting condition. Time to get the big fights before he's overweight and uninterested again.
