A really good Featherweight world champion. Had a nice aggressive counter-punching style but with ring smarts. Looks really good on film, and can definitly punch. Ultimatly he is forgotton due to his tragic demise at the hands of another forgotten master Sugar Ramos
Jm Davey Moore was a pretty good figher, and i think a little underrated.. He was a Pretty good puncher and had good skills and poised for only having less than a doxen fights(when he was champ).. A lot of that has to do with his big amaturer career and over 300+ fights.. Already stamped out wins over legit and experienced contenders early on.. Kalule,Guiden,Weir,Mihara are some good scalps to have. already have at that stage and although he only had a dozen fight was favored to beat Duran.. and dont tell me that Kalule was done after the Leonard loss as he was on a win streak and amd still good enough to beat an already experienced Kalamby and Lindell HOlmes.. . Most prospects today are still fightin 6 or 8 rounders against Tomotoe cans at that point.... I think the days of decoreated amatuers from the US are pretty much over, and thats why some of the prospects now take it to easy.. Moore also looked good after Duran when he fought Benitez.. Benitez was already on the downside but far from shot.... Moore looked like he was on his way to an impressive Ko.. Rocking Benitez and looking sharp... But Benitez broke hs ankle when he got dropped i thoughhe was back.... Also was ahead and doing well with the very Underrated Buster Drayton .. but caught got late.. After that he was through. Id pick a prime Davey Moore with only 12 fights to ko Cotto. at JM. I think Moores youth, power and natural talent would be enough to handle Coto.... An intresting and even fantasy matchup would be Davey Moore and Paul Williams. (ore Martinez ii fight)..
Bronx Davey Moore (the later version), actually had the potential to do some serious damage at 154, had he not run into Duran. Charlie Weir and a faded but still viable Ayub Kalule were serious contenders, and he stopped both of them in impressive fashion. Agressive, but very dynamic offensive fighter with sick power. Think Berto...Only more durable, and with quite a bit more pop in his punches.
I knew it was about the Davey who fought Duran, but genuinly we never here about the first Davey Moore, who is better and criminally forgotten. Such a shame, seriously how many times have we had a thread like this?
Davey Moore was not very good. He had 11 fights when Duran fought him and he just had dental surgery.!!!! I would have been surprised had Duran not beaten him.
If Davey had not run into Duran, he would've done some serious damage.I could see him beating Curry, McCrory, possibly Mugabi, and definitely Ayala jr if that one fight hadn't ruined him.
Even at 11 fights he might have beat a jM version of Curry, definitely like hin over Beats Mccory, Moore an Hilton would have been a helluva fight but Moore takes it.... But id pick a pre Hagler Mugabi and Ayala over Moore,... Moore was a good figher but Ayala was just a little better at everything than Moore..... Mugabi is closer call,.. THe Mugabi who was in big trouble iwith james green probably gets beat by Moore., but the one that fought Hagler kos Moore.
moore was terrible. he lost to duran and then buster drayton stopped in 10!!!!!!! all those guy would beat moore. ayala was terrible also. Money May is an eliete fighter these guys were jokes.
